On August 23, 2008, by Anonymous - Bill S 2274 does not go far enough in detering abuse of dextromethorphan. The drug can easily be compared to PCP and has a psychological addiction rate of 47%. This drug needs to be scheduled and behind the pharmacist counter. At the very least should be behind the counter like Pseudoephedrine. Pseudoephedrine is behind the counter because people were using it to make crystal meth. In making crystal meth you need a recipe, other ingredients and a lab. With dextromethorphan you just take it right off the shelf, take more than directed and get high as a kite. It is proven to be addictive causing a psychosis dependance, has physical withdrawal causing profound depression and capable of inducing specific psychiatric sequelae. The abuse of this drug as tripled and no one is doing anything REAL about it. Lets face it education is like telling a kid to "not stick a bean up his nose" what does the kid do,... sticks the bean up his nose. More needs to be done and done soon. This is an epidemic. Krista
