This is just another way to harm domestic oil efforts. Oversight is needed but not with another tax included. Democrats and taxes go hand-in-hand. We're taxed enough already, in fact, we're taxed too much. Legal citizens in America are getting the crap end of the stick on everything. We need a congress that supports American business and citizens. Nov 2010 is going to be fun voting these reps like the idiot who sponsors this bill.

I support this bill for now. I am concerned about the overall usage of this bill if he makes it into law. I agree that we have too many departments overseeing mineral management and leasing programs; but there is a catch to this bill.
The funding for the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) is at the heart of this bill. This bill could allow more of the revenue which goes into the fund to be used to cover up mountain top removal in the state of West Virginia. As it stands now, coal companies have to pay for the reclaiming of land after mountain top removal; they do a piss poor job of this by the way. If would not take much to convince local governments that a mountain top removal site is of historical value and suck up money from the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) to `cover up` the awful after effects of mountain top removal.

Well, it seems this bill has shown its true colors. I can no longer support this bill. It does way more harm than good. It has turned out to be a back door to pushing though the CLEAR act.
