This is just another way to throw 5 million taxpayer dollars into the black hole of government. SEC. 6. AUTHORIZATIONS OF APPROPRIATIONS FOR ADDITIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL. In addition to such other amounts as are authorized to carry out the Lacey Act Amendments of 1981 (16 U.S.C. 3371 et seq.), there is authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary of the Interior $5,000,000 for fiscal year 2010 to hire additional law enforcement personnel of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to enforce that Act.

• On March 06, 2009, by LostRambler - The more appropriate legislation would simply spell out that certain safety standards are required, not a complete prohibition. If a rich person wants a monkey, they should be able to have one, provided they spend more of their riches on protecting the public. i.e. proper cages, fences, electronic collars, etc. And you can spell out liabilities and criminal penalties for failure to provide for the public safety.
