• On February 01, 2009, by nancym - Everyone who is concerned about the disproportionate lack of help in this bill for those currently running out of unemployment benefits, please go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/strongmiddleclass/ and post a message to the new "strong middle class" taskforce and VP Biden. You can also post another message at www.whitehouse.gov/contact Understand that the current House bill does NOT add additional weeks for those currently eligible, but simply extends the cutoff date for newly or recently unemployed, who can continue to receive benefits past the deadline previously established in bill passed for extensions in November 2008. It must fit in a 500-character limit, so feel free to copy and paste or modify my own post if you want: In addition to taxes on benefits, over 2 million long-term unemployed workers will be facing exhaustion of all extended benefits this April, when finding new jobs is still highly unlikely. No added weeks of benefits for this large group of citizens with few resources left has been provided by Congress. Less than 3% of the stimulus bill provides for any unemployment benefits at all! Unless something is done, this bill cannot carry in its subtitle "assistance to the unemployed" without dishonesty.

In order to get extended unemployment benefits, you also need to pass off on: 300 B with a B for for necessary replacement, modernization, or upgrades of laboratories or other facilities to improve workplace safety and mission-area efficiencies as deemed appropriate by the Secretary $5 Million just to oversee this unbelievable bill $100 B for competitive grants $171 B for Farm Service Agency Salary and Expenses $395 B for watershed and flood rehab/prevention $110 B for rural development salaries and exp. And on and on.... What a load of you-know-what. NO!!! Split this out, and vote separately on issues. The amounts of funds described here are just unimaginable, and especially when WE HAVE NO MONEY TO SPEND!!!
