• On March 19, 2010, by technopolitica - As an environmental sciences major in college and an environmental studies graduate student I am a bit confused by what DarkAngel posted above about climate change. First of all, DarkAngel asserts that "Water vapor is also the number one green house gas. NOT CO2" and that "the cause of global warming is, and always will be, the SUN". In some sense this is true: water vapor currently accounts for 60-80% of the current greenhouse effect, while the remaining 20% seems to be human-caused. Water vapor is a natural greenhouse gas and has helped keep our planet warm and habitable over its history. However, it is important to realize that human CO2 emissions are not inconsequential. Because Earth's climate is a dynamic system with lots of feedbacks, that extra 20% increase in the greenhouse effect (mostly due to CO2 emissions) can and is leading to a shift in the Earth's climate. The modern green movement is seen everywhere, such as at my community college, where a new solar panel system in the northeast part of campus will provide student and staff cars with shade during the hot summer while simultaneously offsetting one-third of the energy costs at the college per year. That's a lot of savings, and a lot of jobs created to build and install those solar panels. How about instead of suggesting we all sit on our thumbs, you try and come forward with a positive vision for America's future?
