    • On October 19, 2011, by actspacey - Can someone help me understand the context of this bill? I often find it hard to interpret the bills which are modifying existing law. Would the right "to allow the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) to detain indefinitely, subject to six-month review" apply equally to an undocumented alien who is not accused of any other crime other than illegal residence and an undocumented alien who is accused of a crime whose residence status is the subject to deportation since they don't have a visa, who then becomes "uncooperative" or meets one of the other conditions? Are there existing safeguards, procedures, appeals, etc during those 6 months to prevent abuse mis-use of the provision which extends the period of detention of people for political or other reasons which have nothing to do with "keeping our communities safe"
