Formally surveying epidemiological trends in neurological diseases is a wonderful concept. However, in order for this legislation to be of value to the military and veteran community, a veteran-specific demographic in Section 399V-6 is justifiably necessary. The information collected from neurologically ill patients must be inclusive of a screening for military service: branch of service, dates of service, deployments along with their dates, locations and any known environmental or chemical exposures. Inclusion of a veteran specific screening will enable the Department of Defense (DoD) and the VA to monitor the health trends of active duty military and veterans, which may prove vital for earned medical benefit compensation. Additionally, active duty and veteran screenings will enable the VA and the DoD to monitor diagnostic patterns that may be consequential to exposures.
