    OpenCongress Bill Summary

    • This is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's debt ceiling bill, introduced in the House by Rep. Dreier for procedural purposes. It would allow the debt ceiling to be raised by $2.7 trillion in exchange for deficit reduction of $2.2 trillion over 10 years. The savings would be achieved through $751 in unspecified spending cuts, eliminating funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, reducing Agricultural subsidies, auctioning off spectrum, and more. It would also create a special congressional committee to propose additional deficit savings and require the committee's proposal to get a filibuster-proof, amendment-less vote.
