I want to see this when possible.... http://www.lioneggfarms.co.uk/media/images/coded-egg.png
It shouldnt be required for smaller egg farmers but if they have a certain, appropriately large production, they should be required to invest in this technology for quality assurance.

Our factory farming system is arguably as much of a crime against life as slavery in the Americas was. These animals spend their whole lives serving us sometimes in brutal condidtions... we can at least spend a couple of cents more per egg to give them a slightly more comfortable life.

Hi Mary,
The United Egg Producers, representing 90% of all egg producers are in support of this bill. Why? Mainly to level the future interstate commerce playing field; different states are now creating more prohibitions and complications in this area in response to consumer demands. A rep from the producer's side said on a recent radio show. I'm a constitutional supporter, so I guess I can go with this under "regulate interstate commerce".
Side benefits in systems which incorporate these measures has been reported to be more egg production per hen, less undesirable animal mortality and sickness, better working conditions (ammonia levels monitored), and possibly less salmonella- not studied, but fairly logical in healthier animals.
A large producer estimated one or two cents per egg increase(for a large producer)to pay for the changes- plus they taste way better (from personal experience).
The bill is sponsored by two Democrats and two Republicans. I like that!
