This is a difficult & emotional subject. Here is my 2 cents. I think that abortion should not be used as a contraceptive. But I think sometimes there is a need. If you look at all the child abuse in today’s society by their own family that is suppose to nurture & protect, that no one reports & that gets swept under the rug or falls through the cracks due to bureacratic nonsense then I praise the young ladies that had enough sense & forethought to make the painful decision of abortion. I would much rather see a fetus aborted than a child abused. Some women cannot carry & then give up for adoption. For some families it’s not a choice.

watsonkl 11/17/2011 2:40pm

I wonder how many pro-lifers are willing to adopt. Better yet, I wonder what the statistics are on which religions have the most abortions. After all, they aren’t taught to use contraceptives or much about sex ed. The ‘sinners’ are more likely to use them, thus less likely to get pregnant, etc. But why debate it. The alternative is being pro life like Andrea Yates, Susan Smith, or Casey Anthony. Yeah, more irresponsible parents is exactly what we need.

Nolander 04/13/2011 8:48pm

I don’t understand why this debate revolves around being allowed to have abortions and not being allowed to have abortions. There’s a time period people should be allowed to discharge the unwanted/unplanned potential child, for a great series of reasons, like: Rape, broken penetration, health complications, financially/ mentally inept, and etc. The debate should be around the time frame of when it is okay to have an abortion, and not whether it is legal to participate.

Obama did produce his birth certificate, and it has been verified by unbiased sources to be authentic. Get over it, he is our president and you are a moron….

Bull Shit, according to science life began around 3.5-4 billion years ago. A fetus is no more “alive” than a man on life support with no functional organs…

I’ll check my birth certificate when Obama produces his for us to check.

Apparently life starts at masturbation, according to that parable. So think twice before you touch it—think of the children!!

You can’t say “abortion should be legal” but “don’t use it as birth control” because you qualify the right to life-saving health care services with so-called proper motives. If you need an abortion but your circumstances don’t qualify for what I think is right, you don’t deserve one?? That’s all kinds of messed up. In the end, you have to ask yourself: Do you trust women to make their own moral decisions? If the answer is yes, then that qualifying statement doesn’t apply anymore. Abortion should be legal, accessible, and affordable, period.

CAN WE LEAVE RELIGION AND THE BIBLE OUT OF EVERYTHING! SHEESH! WE ARE NOT ALL CHRISTIAN! AND TOO THINK THIS IS INSANITY AT IT’S BEST. We used to somewhat have Freedom of Religion in this Country. So you don’t like it, then DONT GET ONE!! Same as if you don’t like a certain place, certain people, or certain food….DONT GO, SPEAK TO, or EAT (them). Funny how people have become advocates for forcing their Ideas on another persons body and mind…..yeah that’s a way to make our Country better-FORCE. How sad. I think Education, Love, and Preventative Care is the answer here.

YEAH…..RELIGION BASED AGAIN….How about WE ARE ALL NOT CHRISTIAN!!!!!! And this Country says FREEDOM OF RELIGION!
I love how people hide behind the Bible when it is convenient :)

Wow! You are Naive to say the least. So I guess you’ve talked to everyone that’s had an abortion and know that that is the reason for all people….How about when you are going to DIE and have serious health complications for you and your baby and NO HOSPITAL will do anything. How about when Birth Control Fails (because let’s face it not EVEYONE SHARES YOUR " MORAL COMPASS" ) so you have no other choice?? Or when you are RAPED?? That’s murder……interesting. You’re train of thought baffles me. Doesn’t the bible say that you shouldn’t Judge unless you’ve walked a mile in someone else’s shoes How sad that you have everything to say but haven’t given any thought to what happens when a VERY SERIOUS situation arises. We need to EDUCATE and make OTHER OPTIONS AVAILABLE!!! THIS IS THE WORLD WE LIVE IN-CHANGE IS INEVITALBE! So hillarious. Thanks for the Morning Giggle. Much appreciated.

You don’t know what anyone else’s situation is. Very concerning to know that some people can approve RELIGION as the foundation for EVERYONES MORAL CODE And just a side note not everyone is religious or Christian. This was not FOUNDED as a Christian Nation- The first amendment says Freedom of ALL religions does it not?? This land was actually inhabited by Native Indigenous People to this land-and we stole, pillaged, killed, and so on and so forth to get what we wanted- It’s history and fact and we need to PREVENT the need for Abortion by educating our kids and giving them safer options-we need to grow in intelligence not naivety (Not saying that you personally are rather making a general statement) This is what is wrong with our Country in some fashion. I hate that organized religion has brought us to a world full of “sin” and “people who don’t believe will all perish” that’s sick thinking to think that a LOVING G-d is so vengeful. What a way to imagine our Creator….

I LOVE YOUR COMMENT! Very wise and full of insight!

vee 04/29/2010 3:45pm

woo i just love when people talk about this topic:)
i dont give a damn what you say, abortion is MURDER!!
especially when you have TWO or MORE. It’s sad becuase a lot of young
girls have abortions when they should’nt be having sex in the first place.
i mean what ever happened to not having sex till your married?

Girls go out & have sex & when they get pregnant there like oh well i’ll just go get an abortion??they rely on this, which is horrible. Therefore, if it wasnt available maybe they’d think twice before having sex, or better yet get on birth control.

The women who do get abortions, should be in prison for murder.
“If you cant do the time, dont do the crime”(:
& women who do get abortions most of the time get them because they “screwd up”.
Its as easy as this, keep ur legs shut & you wont have to make that decision:)

klonfasp 02/17/2010 3:59pm

See, the thing is, those who believe nobody should be allowed to have an abortion also tend to think nobody should be allowed to use birth control. They say it’s God’s will, and they’d never admit it’s their concept of God they’re trying to force on everybody. They’d also prefer to do the judging and punishing themselves, instead of letting God take care of it. Don’t look for consistency, or any real thought; their belief makes it correct—-just as no amount of official paperwork, attestations or even Supreme Court dismissals will ever convince them that Obama is a U.S. citizen. They deny it, so it must be false. Score one for faith, zero for reason.

Lets call a spade a spade. Until someone can show me convincing scientific evidence that an unborn child is not a human life, then I believe its best to err on the side of caution. Abortion is the taking of a human life, and therefore murder. But there are defenses to murder, such as defense of self or of others. A mother should not be forced to die for her unborn offspring, but neither should abortion be used as birth control or permission for promiscuity. As for morality, it must have a static base to stand upon and that’s why religion is a key element of the equation. The alternative, relative morality, simply means the strongest or most vocal group gets to say what is moral. Right now the moral midgets advocating indiscriminate abortions are the most vocal group. But does that really make it moral?

aguttuso 10/30/2009 11:16am

Well, I’ll just add another voice to this long and painful debate. I’m a 21 year old Catholic female and I support the right to have an abortion. That being said, I’m not saying it’s okay or the appropriate decision or anything of that nature but I am saying that the government has no place legislating on such a personal matter. Those who support the right to an abortion are called pro-choice for a reason, they support one’s right to make the decision for themselves. If your values make you opposed to abortion then I support your right not to have one or every be talked into one. On the same token, however, if you don’t even believe in God I’m not going to tell you you can’t abort your fetus because an entity you don’t believe exists says its wrong.

How about we put all of this angry energy into preventing unwanted pregnancies in the first place by allowing comprehensive sex ed in our schools, instead of the continuing the notion that abstinence only works.

What is wrong in this picture is that people are having babies that they don’t/won’t care for. There are 40,000 children dying around the world from starvation and curable diseases. Yes these mothers should take care of their children, but there isn’t unanimous agreement as to when life begins, when there is, I think that the ‘abortion is not acceptable’ debate could be had or not had.

In the mean time, I believe that abortion should not be the primary means of contraception, not by far. But it should be an option; there are a lot of extenuating circumstances and I don’t think that anyone would want the government involved in something so personal in their own lives, so I think that it’s hypocritical to suggest that it is legislated if you’ve not had the experience yourself.

Yes, Pmcgrath, I’m glad that this girl had her baby. That baby grew up to be a beautiful, intelligent, and productive member of society.

And I love her. But then I should, she’s my mother.

As for me any person running for office that supports abortion, I just don’t vote for them. Plain and simple. It does not matter what party they are running on. Just maybe if we all did this, sooner our later we will get all these self appointed Gods out of government. This country is falling fast because of this sin. How can we ask God to bless this country and at the same time murder His children. These children belong to Him not us. Our job is to take care of them for Him.

In the bible, the man withdrew himself and his seed fell to the ground. God was upset with this waste of life and took the mans life in return.
So life starts at and before conception in the eyes of GOD.

Darkayne 06/05/2009 12:06am

The people who argue “keep ‘em closed and you wouldn’t have a problem” should be mentally slapped into a fresh state of reality. Abortion should be allowed — but, of course, the rate at which women have abortions needs to be greatly lowered. Early education, parents actually teaching their children, something. Obviously it should not be used as a form of birth control. Those who do so should be held responsible. I would never want to see an unborn not even have the chance to breath. However (and unfortunately), there are cases where abortion has saved lives. There are cases where it needs to be done, whether the Religious Right likes it or not. “One’s moral screw ups” aren’t always the case, and it is not always that “horrible act of violence.” And religious views should be kept out of this.

Oh, that’s a good argument, Stop breathing! Maybe thats one you should take into consideration. Abortion is wrong, Human Life starts at conception. 10 Commandments in the Bible— Thou shall not Kill.
Not any simpler than that. This issue should not be a politicial football but a human rights issue. If women do abort they will have to face their maker when the judgement comes. God is in control.

I love the argument if your against it don’t do it. I advise that if you are against murder don’t commit one. If you are against global warming stop breathing. Wow this is a great argument.

Actually life begins at conception according to science. The fact that we choose to extinguish this life before a natural birth does not change that fact. In addition to this the life that is destroyed is a human life which is another scientific fact.

The book of myths that the anti-choice uses to shore their arguement does not celebrate the conception of it’s messiah, but the birth of that mythical figure. Why should it be any different 2000 years later? Life begins at birth. Check all of your legal documents, they all list your birth date.
