I am appalled that the U.S.Goverment which I support with my hard earned tax dollars is allowing foreign goverments to build Military aerial refueling tankers for our Air Force. Why are we allowing foreign subsides manufactrures to take jobs from U.S. We are facing a recession and we are shipping jobs overseas? No I am not connected with Boeing or the aircraft industry. Retried, exmilitary, tax payer!

Bush opposed extensions of unemployment benefits which would have been included with the economic stimulus package. There will be no extensions. o

My unemployment runs out in 3 weeks, are there any talks that the unemployment will be extended in the near future, or is it a dead issue now? I live in an area where unemployment is high. Its been hard to find a job. If I loose my unemployment before I find a job, I may be out on the street. o

I don't think the issue is dead, it just didn't get in with the stimulus package. I think they are going to revisit it. It is my hope as well - my benefits end in a month. I've never been this long without a job in 20 years. Very frustrating that they didn't include it in the stimulus package. *

I have been laid off of my job after 29 years of working for a company, and because of my age [57] it will take longer for me to find a job. I really hope that this bill gets passed so that I can have help supporting my family and paying the utility bills. I have been tracking it, and am frustrated that not more has been done with it. It also seems to me that it is taking at least a year for people 57 and older to find quality work. I think these are issues that politicians need to know.
**When you go gray, they want you to go away..... SO help us if that is the case, because we have famalies and children to support. I personally have been paying into the system since I was 15. REach back and extend my unemployment benefits. *

REACH BACK AND ALLOW UNEMPLOYMENT TO BE COLLECTED BY THOSE WHOSE BENEFITS HAVE RUN OUT. IF PEOPLE HAVE NOT WORKED SINCE LAST MAY AND THEIR BENEFITS HAVE RUN OUT, AND THEY ARE STILL NOT ABLE TO FIND WORK, ALLOW THEM A TEMPORARY EXTENSION OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS.

This bill was blocked by the republicans with the help of Nancy Pelosi. I was thinking of voting republican if there was a good candidate for President. This has switched my position to straight democrat. I hope that eveyone out there whos benefits will end will find jobs. It's getting harder everyday. Good luck. *

No, It's not dead yet. Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the house said this is an issue that could be looked at after the stimulus package was approved. She didn't want it held up. (Missed by one vote). Congress is back in session and I would hope that this item would be first on their agenda. *

I agree. I have been laid off now since August, but had a severance package. I worked in the mortgage industry as an underwriter, and there is NOTHING out there for me. I just started Nursing school, and am through the 1st semester. My unemployment will run out next month. If I do not find something I am screwed!!. I hope they extend them, and SOON!!! *

My benefits ran at the end of October of last year and still no job and it's definetly not for the lack of trying. I've already lost my home to forecloser and am living with my parents at the age of 40.. An extension through the winter months would be so helpful.. *

My husband was laid off after 28 yrs of service to the same company on his 60th birthday. He has been to one job interview in the past one year after interviews with several head hunters and applying to thousands of companies. For those high priced consultants to the bill who believe that the passing of this bill would be a deterent to the unemployed from seeking jobs i would like to invite them to walk in his shoes for atleast a day.I hope that the bill will be passed. *

I was laid-off in April of 2007 from my job of 7 years and my benefits ran out in November. I have a 2 year old son and another child due in April. I have gone back to school full-time and search for a job daily to no avail so far. I fell like the Democrats could have pushed harder for this, but the Republicans will surely pay a steep price in November for their unwillingness to help people in desperate situations who have paid into the system their entire lives. *

Wouldn't you think giving extensions to those thousands of unemployed, whose benefits have run out within the last 6 months put money into the economy faster then the rebates that won't be here until atleast mid-may? *

It's frustrating all we talk here without any positive result...I'm wondering what should we do to survive? If we have no money, no job, no opportunities in the land of opportunities, America!!! It's very sad that in Florida there are no laws to protect workers, it's very sad that here there's slavery and nobody cares....farm workers work even 70 hours weekly (or they're fired)and everybody knows and nobody cares. Big Plant Nurseries and Medium size also, pay whatever they want in taxes, and that is ignored...and in addition there are no jobs, unless you accept to be paid for whatever or no job for you....I wish things change someday in the south....At least would be good to see some justice and less administrative corruption here!!! *

Stimulus package great idea. Alot of us can use the money. But Bush opposes the unemployment extensions? whats more important? That people with jobs get extra money or that the unemployed get an extension thats much needed to find a job that can at least even the living expenses. Houses are being foreclosed on in mass numbers and a rebate check is going to solve this? We need to rebuild this economy from the ground up. And i watched the debate last night. Learning a second language for americans? Great if you elect to. But i think it should be mandatory that anyone in this country who is legal, needs to learn the language of america! ENGLISH! o

agree, made English mandatory, now there crying because the parents are getting sent back because their here illegal, but the kids where born here, so they can stay, pass a law saying that if you are born from illegal parents here, then that makes the child illegal, mandatory, then ship them back with the parents!! they get help to feed them , pay for their rent and cloth them , and here we are without jobs. also make it the retirement age goes back to 62 and 65, put the younger folks who are able to work, put them to work, and not on getting paid to sit on their butts and cry i got to many kids and i can't get a job, boo hoo. force them to get a job, let the older folks that have work hard all their life enjoy some retirement before they die and not make them work at walmart saying , hi welcome to walmart!!! because people are so called living longer.. I know the wasn't wrote correct but was in a hurry. lol unemployed here, trying to find a job!!! get that none speaking , no english, person out of their job send them back, then we can go get a job. now if they come here legal and work hard like the rest of us Americans!!! I have no problem with it.... +

Regarding the illegal parents and child born in the United States. I agree that at least one parent needs to be a US citizen to be denoted a US citizen. I mean Canada and Mexico should be pissed that the US is stealing their citizens their future populations.
The consulate allows for child born abroad act why doesn't this apply to these folks? The newborn should receive a child born abroad act certificate and sent home with there parents. o

The USA does NOT have an official language. If we do not insist on English as our official language we may all be speaking a different language. With the economy so bad we must insist those who do not belong here to leave. There are not enough jobs now just wait till our troops come home and try to find a job. We will be seriously headed for a DEPRESSION. *

Helping other countries has been the american way for a long time, but doesnt the government think its time to regulate that spending and put it into our own country which is crumbling fast! My son needs shots he is 15 months and i keep getting rejected for doctors who wont take medicaid. Anyone rember that song whats going on? What is going on? God bless all of you in this struggle. If obama or clinton get in which one of them should, I think we will see some good changes. Id like my son to be in AMERICA. As i see it now this is no longer america. The news keeps reporting that unemployment is down....however, they don't take into consideration the number of people that have been on unemployment and their benifits have run out. The job market is bleak at best right now...and those people have no way of paying their bills. Looks like if Bush has his way, there are gonna be a lot of homeless poeple in this country. *

My unemployment is gone, and my husband is loosing his job. His company had been in business for over 100 years, and they announced yesterday that its closing.. Dont know what to do...It shows you that Bush doesnt care about the people who are trying to make it day to day. The extension would help me and my family. *

My unemployment runs out in two weeks.I have two kids and two dogs.I have applied for everything from wine tasting to merchandising. There only one job in my field(meatcutter) in the whole state and that is 2 hrs away. The gov. does not see or care about the needs of its people or they would not waste time on the bills they are currently working on. I have only one resource left" GOD" so I think I will say a prayer for all of us. *

Lets all starting writing, emailing, calling our representatives. Something has to be done, we all have so much to loose if we don't stand for something. If we "unemployed" stick together maybe we can get this to bill to pass, pass this website to everyone you can and ask them to write our representatives, please. *

I have been unemployed since Oct and my benefits run out in April, I do not know what I will do. I am 53 years old and the first time I have been unemployed for 20 years and it takes a lot longer to get employment when you are over the age of 50. I am praying that they will approve this extension of benefits for all our sakes. *

I feel your pain also. I am a single mother with a son almost 3 years old. I lost my job in September and I have about 2 weeks left of unemployment, which is only 128 a week. The last 4 months of my employment I was making 4 times that amount and had gotten myself into payments that I can no longer afford. My gas and electric will be shut off soon if the state doesn't help me. I don't even understand why there is a question in Michigan of whether or not they should allow us an extension. I don't have a cell phone, my car is 14 years old and dying and diapers are 21 dollars a case, JESUS. *

My unemployment benefits ran out at the begeinning of February which I had to fight for because my employer fired me because of my medical reason. I unable to find a job right now because the medication I have been prescribed doesn't allow me to function normally. Because Florida is a state that only give disability benefits for being totally disabled I don't qualify. I have no children so I don't qualify for cash benefits. No job, no unemployment, can't qualify for diability or cash assistance and unable to drive or function normally. HELP!! - what is a person to do??? Truly become homeless and die because I don't have money buy meds to control my constant seizures. I was born and raised in the USA, why is it so hard and takes so long to get help in this country. By the time everything gets processed you have hit rock bottom and have to start all over again. *

As much as I had read on the subject of these checks that will be sent out in may, as it's like a loan on our 2008 tax returns.. So if you get back 2000 in Feb and they send you 800 dollars you will only be getting back 1200.. Yeah it sounds like a great idea, but it's not free money.. I will be sending my check back.. I need the money, but would rather wait until next tax season to get it. *

I had a surgery in July 2007 and I was fired after 7 years. The company I was working for told to the government unemployment office that I abandoned the job, which was not true. But my claim was accepted and now I exhausted my benefits this last week. My husband was laid off in November and after trying to find a job without any success, we don't know what else to do. axiomgjss@yahoo.com (Loffredo family Cutler Bay, FL) *

Although she told to the government unemployment office that I abandoned the job, which was not true, my claim was accepted but somehow that company didn't have to pay any money, the government dit it. My benefits ended last week. Husband's job is tenuous at best. We have no health insurance and my son requires medication daily. I've been unemployed since Oct and am 47 years old without much hope of finding a job in the near future. I'm from Texas and I absolutely think Bush is the most ignorant president we've had in years. It's time this country stepped up and took care of it's own instead of sending billions of dollars to countries that don't appreciate it nor do they really want it. All they want to do is whine and ride out backs for aid. I'd vote for anyone but a republican at this point. *

Company shut down. Why? because the economy is in the tank! Add it all up and USA is close to having breadlines. Unemployment runs out in 1 week, I'll have enough to pay rent for march, but then im done, I'll probably be sued for the 4 months remaining on my lease, and I have no where to go, been selling my possessions off to make the transition to living in my car easier. Electrical engineer, 12 years IT experience, and cant even get a simple $12/hr IT job the market is so bad, and im sure im up against thousands fighting for the same jobs. Milwaukee is #2 from the bottom of 50 largest cities in the US, and ranks just above Detroit. I've worked all my life, since i was 12, now 38, and for all ive worked for has been sold off to live on and support my job search. All that to move into my car! Im not sure if I can get some kind of welfare, if not I guess I'll have to turn to dumpster diving *

Like many here I hope that the bill goes through. This is an excellent site. I have 60 days left on mine. I don't know much about bill passage but I see that it was introduced on Jan 22. Anyone know how long that would be for a bill of that time? I'll be contacting my representative though the web to voice my plea. It sounds as though it is 50/50 to me from what I have read. The economy is wacked right now. The stock market goes up today in the face of high inflation news. Ya'll should take a second to email your local person. You can link right through this site with your zip code. It even has the link. Good luck to all. *

Unemployed now 6 months, 54 years old, laid off after 22 years due to loss of business. Unemployment is just now going to run out and I have tapped the equity in my house to get by. Employers have a great deal of power now; they have a lot of talented people in a vast pool to look at. Those who are employed are afraid of losing their job or being replaced by someone making less. Anyone else out there thinking we might be in or sliding to a second Great Depression? *

I think there are a number of things that need to be done to fix all our problems. Instead of depending on Bush to get his head out of his --- .. Number one get the Republicans out of the white house.#2 close the borders and get rid of the free trades law.. #3 charge all these companys that went to Mexico a huge charge, to bring there stuff back in the United States. #4 force these companys to keep 75% of there companys manufaturing in the United States before they get any tax brakes.. *

3 weeks left on unemployment, 100+ job applications filed with all types of industries with maybe a .5% response rate and obviously I wasn't selected. I have an MBA, MHA, BS in IT, BS in healthcare and "nada". Very scary for all of us. If I didn't know better I'd think I was in Mexico, not California, where there are no benefits. This bill will provide an immediate stimulus to the economy because 1) it's easy and cheap to administer, using existing bureaucracies States already have in place to administer employment programs and 2) unemployed people will immediately take that money and go out and spend it in the retail economy, unlike tax rebates that many people will tuck into savings accounts. *

Pres Bush just gave a live speech in which he touched on the Stimulus Plan. He said that the congress wants to put together a part 2 but he does not support it. He said that we should wait to see how the rebate checks affect the economy before trying anything else. I'll be the first to say that if anyone goes out and spends their rebate check on new clothes and game systems then they are LUNATICS. I will use the money to pay bills and put gas in my car to hopefully get to an interview that will result in employment. It is my opinion that the rebate checks will hit the hands of people like me who have families to feed and bills to pay and there will not be a boost in the economy. Then they will have to extend unemployment benefits. Sad that by then for many of us it will be far to late. *

This bill is going to be included in Congress's budget resolution. CongressDaily reports:
The budget resolution will include a separate $35 billion economic-stimulus bill that will be made up of an unemployment insurance extension, a temporary increase in food stamps and low-income heating assistance. Conrad said the stimulus bill will not be offset. The budget resolution will designate the stimulus bill as emergency spending.
Conrad said the next stimulus package is designed to sweep in "things that were left out of the previous stimulus package." He also pointed to CBO's analysis that an unemployment extension and food stamp increases are most likely to have an immediate positive impact on the economy.
The Senate's next stimulus bill will not include additional federal money for Medicaid. State governors and more than 70 health and labor groups have lobbied for a temporary increase in Medicaid as part of a stimulus package, but their pleas have largely fallen on deaf ears.

Its plain and simple rich-republican, poor-democrat that how you vote. Like jim morrison said. People are strange. Why am i not suprised bush shot down the unemployment? I say we all pay him a visit and demand he covers our bills until we find a job. Country took a nosedive in the crapper since he got in. They should extend the unemployment and have headhunters finding us jobs in this depressed job market. Anyone in here so sick with worry over their bills in here having anxiety attacks? i am *

Thank you for the help. I ran out of funds on the 1st and did not know if I was to keep filing even though the is no money. just in case they did pass this But given Bush's comment today and Bernanke news it looks like they will just have more meetings for the internet companies and the others more important bills to be heard........ Not us that the money is needed now. *

HI everyone. Its not that Bush doesnt care because he is rich, its because he is busy allowing all his big friends to make money off our back. I have two more unemployment checks left and then I am sunk. I just lost my house, and not because of subprime either. I am 54 years old and had to move in with my mother. I was making $8,000.00+ a month and now I am almost broke. At yesterday's speech, how could he say we were not in a recession. And also that he didn't know that gas may reach $4.00 a gallon by the summer. How stupid does he think we are? We all need to stand up somehow. Just isn't enough to go around. I am very upset at the Democratic Congress who was going to do so much for all of us and have done nothing. Whot shut them up so quickly? Who is paying them off? If anyone votes for McCain, they are crazy. He is nothing but a clone of Bush and he will continue where this one leaves off. I pray for all and how we will make it. o

I agree with you about bush caring, it's not that he didn't realize gas prices were just about 4.00 a gallon.... He's the same ol bush who stoled the election, he was an idiot then and now he is an idiot that doesn't think logically....I can't think of one thing thing this guy that makes since as a whole for this country..... *

It makes me sick...all this money for the stimulus package was borrowed from China. Then we have to pay them back with interest to boot and all the products we buy anymore are made in China, so who is making out here!! All our jobs are overseas, we have nothing, our government is deserting us, the rich get richer, we are losing our homes and going hungry. This coming election doesn't leave much to vote for...We need a PATRIOT in the white house to fight for us! o

What makes me sick is the fact that each year our unemployment rate goes up. Businesses are moving out of the country because they can produce cheaper in other countries. Why??? Because the comsumer does not want to pay the high prices. Fact is... If the companies in the United States were forced to purchase from other companies in the United States we wouldn't be in this situation. We need to concentrate more on OUR country and let the rest of the world take care of themselves. If the unemployment extension does not pass, there will be a lot more people left homeless with the economy the way it is. *

As of today, I have applied at 217 employers ranging from the west coast to the east coast. Out of 217, I have ONLY interviewed twice. One for a production line position and one for sales position. Both didn't require any skills or experience and NEVER heard a word after the interview, not even a letter or call. In July 2007, I started to collect $243 a week. That wasn't anything close to what I was making. Now I've exhausted my benefits and I've lost my house and 2 cars. Now the question is to the Bush administration is, "Why do you think foreclosures are at an all time high?" When jobs are lost and very LITTLE income(unemployment) is coming in the household and oneself CAN NOT get an aveage paying job, this is what happens. You ask, what am I going to do? Really nothing. This government does not take care and guide the American people through tough times, how can this government take care of OTHER COUNTRIES and give AID like if it comes off the press and out in neat piles ready to be shipped to some country that American people never heard of. We don't see OTHER countries HELPING us in AID, JOBS, and of course OIL. We ALL can't wait for OIL to go to $4.00 a gallon. This may be a good thing, because minimum wage SHOULD go up to $12 per hour!!! We ALL wish, right? This entire government NEEDS to be REORGANIZED and NEEDS TO HAPPEN THIS ELECTTION YEAR!!! We don't need ANYMORE rich people in office in PUBLIC OFFICE! When someone runs for PUBLIC OFFICE, there should a be maximum of what that person is worth and they should NOT have ANY other interests in companies, corporations, privately held companies ANYTHING that produces income. They ALL should be treating as WE UNEMPLOYED ARE!!! Background checks ie, ChoicePoint, Credit Checks, Reference Checks and if ANY adverse inforation is found, they should be REMOVED from PUBLIC OFFICE!!! This county of ours where FREEDOM is written in black & white is depleated faster then the OZONE. We MUST TAKE TAKEN THIS YEAR!!! We NEED a president who knows what we are needing and who shares the needs of US! Please VOTE this year! Don't let this next president be a DICATOR, let us dictate what WE NEED!!

I posted the original response to this question and here is a brief summary: Unemployment extensions could have been included in the economic stimulus package that was passed on February 6th. However, Bush completely opposed any extensions and as a result the revised senate bill fell one vote short on February 5th. Pelosi (D-CA.) refused to continue the fight and called for a vote on the original house bill, and that is what was passed the following day. Currently, the senate bill (no.2544) and the house bill (no.4934) are still on the floor. These bills are the only chance for immediate extensions of benefits. Unfortuneately, Bush could care less and the rest of the republicans would rather concentrate on important issues like weather Roger Clemens took steroids or not. Everyone needs to write, e-mail or call their senators and representatives to let them know that we need action taken on these unemployment bills NOW! We will receive some response on the extensions if everyone can contact their reps as soon as possible. These introduced bills are sitting there waiting for action if we can all voice our opinion on the urgency of the situation. I live in Michigan with the highest unemployment rate in the country. I lost my job after 28 years with the same company when they decided to leave the state. Beleive me, it doesn't get any worse than Michigan right now. There is no work and the 6,000 of us that were laid off from my company ran out of unemployment in mid January. I feel everyones pain and can't stress enough how important it is to let our voices be heard so we can get the help we need. I am following the legislation on a daily basis and will update any developments on this site. Good luck to all! *

On the website for Wisconsin, the governor also stated. The Feds have $4,3 billion pool of money ready for the states to sue to extend jobless benefits, but Congress has not yet acted to release the money. UNBELIEVABLE. I cannot find a job with 173 resumes sent and know I am looking to move to another state. The checks coming in May will be to late I will be living in my car. Can you deliver to my Car? Please look on open congress.com and see how many people are in despair. I wonder what the legislators would do if we laid them off and there checks were about to run out. o

I think that is irritating as it is Pelosi wanted the whole package approved Bush stated he would not approve the whole bill...So she got the approval for what she could, I believe that she will go after the rest of the package now that bush has agreed to part of it....
It would have made more sense to extend the benefits and the food stamp program since being on unemployment helps to qualify one for food stamps....Now if we could get more than 10.00 a month.
Write to the white house I did when Clinton was president I got a response as did my son when he was 8 and wrote to President Clinton.... *

HERE'S A FUNNY ONE FOR YA....
It's funny how he thinks he can come into office and destroy the foundation laid out before him....Perhaps Clinton was a bit loose with his morals, but he did leave office with a surplus of assets....Bush on the other hand has racked up over 3 trillion dollars in debt. We very well probably need to get Hilary into office , after all people said she was running the Country before. When they vacated the office all hell broke loose...Good going George....
President Bush remains committed to fiscal discipline and balancing the budget by 2012. The President's commitment to keeping taxes low and spending in check is helping us reach our goal of a balanced budget – the deficit in 2007 was 1.2 percent of GDP, which is lower than the average of the last 40 years. *

Please pass extension for unemployment benefits. I have been unemployed since 7/07, in the title company industry for 30 years. I have been unable to find a job, went back to school, which was like pulling teeth to get EDD to approve that. Looked for a job all summer, no luck, applied over 100 jobs, very few interviews, very disappointing. Never been unemployed before, not a good feeling. Taking medical courses to change careers, Good luck to you all. *

I think the economic stimulus package was an OK idea until bush got a hold of it....Well I can say one thing about Bush and that is he has lived up to his reputation of , being dense, and possessing no logic.... What sense does it make to give someone a 600.00 rebate that makes 75,000.00 a year in income... I personally have never made over 23,000.00 a year and I got by on that....I may have not had a nice boat, car or owned my own home but hey I got by...Ive been barely getting by on unemployment payments which is ceasing to exist in 1 week....I'm pretty damn sure those making over 50,000.00 a year could learn to get by....Perhaps they should teach those in the upper class to learn to get by just in case they need to now and then.....Then the unemployed might be able to exist until bush is out of office. and we get A Commander and Chief who is here for the people who work the hardest in this country.....
OH yhea the unemployment in this country is higher then politicians would lead you to believe....since those wh

What is the likely hood that we will get an extension in our unemployment benefits? Any time real soon?
I am appalled that the U.S.Goverment which I support with my hard earned tax dollars is allowing foreign goverments to build Military aerial refueling tankers for our Air Force. Why are we allowing foreign subsides manufactrures to take jobs from U.S. We are facing a recession and we are shipping jobs overseas? No I am not connected with Boeing or the aircraft industry. Retried, exmilitary, tax payer!

S.2544 Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2008
A bill to provide for a program of temporary extended unemployment compensation.
OpenCongress Summary:
This bill would provide 20 more weeks of unemployment insurance benefits to those who exhausted their benefits within the past year and are still unemployed. In states with exceptionally high unemployment, it would provide for an additional 13 weeks of benefits. It would also increase all individual benefits by $50 per week. If the economy continues towards a recession, it is likely that Congress will attempt to enact this bill.

Bush opposed extensions of unemployment benefits which would have been included with the economic stimulus package.
There will be no extensions.

My unemployment runs out in 3 weeks, are there any talks that the unemployment will be extended in the near future, or is it a dead issue now? I live in an area where unemployment is high. Its been hard to find a job. If I loose my unemployment before I find a job, I may be out on the street.

I don't think the issue is dead, it just didn't get in with the stimulus package. I think they are going to revisit it. It is my hope as well - my benefits end in a month. I've never been this long without a job in 20 years. Very frustrating that they didn't include it in the stimulus package.

Good luck.

No, It's not dead yet. Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the house said this is an issue that could be looked at after the stimulus package was approved. She didn't want it held up. (Missed by one vote). Congress is back in session and I would hope that this item would be first on their agenda.

My benefits ran at the end of October of last year and still no job and it's definetly not for the lack of trying. I've already lost my home to forecloser and am living with my parents at the age of 40.. An extension through the winter months would be so helpful..

Wouldn't you think giving extensions to those thousands of unemployed, whose benefits have run out within the last 6 months put money into the economy faster then the rebates that won't be here until atleast mid-may?

This is just sad we can so much money to other countries but we cannot help our own. I live in MIchigan with highest unemployment rate and finding a job is unlikely right now. I have 3 more checks coming and then I am done. I am thankful for the checks coming in May but I wont have anywhere to live by then and where will they deliver that check to my car?

ENGLISH!

agree, made English mandatory, now there crying because the parents are getting sent back because their here illegal, but the kids where born here, so they can stay, pass a law saying that if you are born from illegal parents here, then that makes the child illegal, mandatory, then ship them back with the parents!! they get help to feed them , pay for their rent and cloth them , and here we are without jobs. also make it the retirement age goes back to 62 and 65, put the younger folks who are able to work, put them to work, and not on getting paid to sit on their butts and cry i got to many kids and i can't get a job, boo hoo. force them to get a job, let the older folks that have work hard all their life enjoy some retirement before they die and not make them work at walmart saying , hi welcome to walmart!!! because people are so called living longer.. I know the wasn't wrote correct but was in a hurry. lol
unemployed here, trying to find a job!!!
get that none speaking , no english, person out of their job send them back, then we can go get a job.
now if they come here legal and work hard like the rest of us Americans!!! I have no problem with it....

My unemployment is gone, and my husband is loosing his job. His company had been in business for over 100 years, and they announced yesterday that its closing.. Dont know what to do...It shows you that Bush doesnt care about the people who are trying to make it day to day. The extension would help me and my family.

Lets all starting writing, emailing, calling our representatives. Something has to be done, we all have so much to loose if we don't stand for something. If we "unemployed" stick together maybe we can get this to bill to pass, pass this website to everyone you can and ask them to write our representatives, please.

I have been unemployed since Oct and my benefits run out in April, I do not know what I will do. I am 53 years old and the first time I have been unemployed for 20 years and it takes a lot longer to get employment when you are over the age of 50. I am praying that they will approve this extension of benefits for all our sakes.

I don't have a cell phone, my car is 14 years old and dying and diapers are 21 dollars a case, JESUS.

i havent been unemployed since I was 17 years old (34 now), and my benefits ran out in december. I've burned through my savings trying desperately to find a job, and have had no luck. My house is going into foreclosure, my son is going to live with his grandma, and i'm going to be living on the streets at the end of the month.

Surgery is schedule in the begin of March and recovery takes usually 4-8 weeks. Anybody knows if I can extend my unemployment benefits for this period?
Thanks

Do you have proof that they fired you for your medical reasons? If you have some proof or documentation i suggest you get a lawyer that works on commision from your settlement. That is bs. It sounds like you have solid ground for a hell of a lawsuit there!

I had a surgery in July 2007 and I was fired after 7 years.
The company I was working for told to the government unemployment office that I abandoned the job, which was not true. But my claim was accepted and now I exhausted my benefits this last week. My husband was laid off in November and after trying to find a job without any success,

Really don't think he(Bush)actually cares, as long as it benefits him. He's eating, his bills are paid and he's going to be set for life after his term ends. Why should he care about the rest of us. Maybe he should give up his salary for the year and help us..

Im not sure if I can get some kind of welfare, if not I guess I'll have to turn to dumpster diving

I think there are a number of things that need to be done to fix all our problems. Instead of depending on Bush to get his head out of his --- .. Number one get the Republicans out of the white house.#2 close the borders and get rid of the free trades law.. #3 charge all these companys that went to Mexico a huge charge, to bring there stuff back in the United States. #4 force these companys to keep 75% of there companys manufaturing in the United States before they get any tax brakes..

It's getting close.

have always been a proud honorble people. Our honor as a country and rights have been taken away. You take care of your own always, before you take care of another countrys problems.
Our government has forsaken, sold out, sold to the highest bidder. GREED!! IM asking GOD to help us all!!I need it!!

You got to scratch your head and wonder why people like us in here with no money vote republican. people i know from my neighborhood would vote republican with not a pot to piss in. what are they thinking? Its plain and simple rich-republican, poor-democrat that how you vote. Like jim morrison said. People are strange. Why am i not suprised bush shot down the unemployment? I say we all pay him a visit and demand he covers our bills until we find a job. Country took a nosedive in the crapper since he got in. They should extend the unemployment and have headhunters finding us jobs in this depressed job market. Anyone in here so sick with worry over their bills in here having anxiety attacks? i am

However, Bush completely opposed any extensions and as a result the revised senate bill fell one
vote short on February 5th. Pelosi (D-CA.) refused to continue the fight and called for a vote on the original house bill, and that is what was passed the following day.
Currently, the senate bill (no.2544) and the house bill (no.4934) are still on the floor. These bills are the only chance for immediate extensions of benefits. Unfortuneately,
Bush could care less and the rest of the republicans would rather concentrate on important issues like weather Roger Clemens took steroids or not. Everyone needs to write, e-mail or call their senators and representatives to let them
know that we need action taken on these unemployment bills
NOW! We will receive some response on the extensions if everyone can contact their reps as soon as possible. These
introduced bills are sitting there waiting for action if we can all voice our opinion on the urgency of the situation.
I live in Michigan with the highest unemployment rate in the country. I lost my job after 28 years with the same company when they decided to leave the state. Beleive me,
it doesn't get any worse than Michigan right now. There is no work and the 6,000 of us that were laid off from my company ran out of unemployment in mid January. I feel everyones pain and can't stress enough how important it is to let our voices be heard so we can get the help we need.
I am following the legislation on a daily basis and will
update any developments on this site. Good luck to all!

On the website for Wisconsin, the governor also stated. The Feds have $4,3 billion pool of money ready for the states to sue to extend jobless benefits, but Congress has not yet acted to release the money. UNBELIEVABLE. He is also pressing is delegation to move to provide a federal extension. MAYBE WE ALL SHOULD MOVE TO WISCONSIN, HE SEEMS TO CARE ABOUT HIS PEOPLE.

What are we waiting for, Bill 2544 is still sitting there and no movement. I have 2 more checks coming then what? I cannot find a job with 173 resumes sent and know I am looking to move to another state. The checks coming in May will be to late I will be living in my car. Can you deliver to my Car? Please look on open congress.com and see how many people are in despair. I wonder what the legislators would do if we laid them off and there checks were about to run out.

Write to the white house I did when Clinton was president I got a response as did my son when he was 8 and wrote to

***** WE NEED OUR UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION ***** WE ARE LOOSING OUR HOMES, OUR AUTOS, OUR RIGHTS TO FIGHT THE ONES WHO MADE THIS HAPPEN, OUR DREAMS, OUR FAMILIES, OUR HOPES, AND OUR MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVE IN THE ARMED FORCES WHO PROTECT US. WE ARE BEGGING FOR THIS UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION BECAUSE WE UNEMPLOYED AMERICANS HAVE TRUST IN OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS TO <<<ACT>>> WHEN WE AMERICANS ARE IN <<<NEED>>>. WE ALL KNOW THERE'S A HEART SOMEWHERE STANDING IN WASHINGTON WONDERING ABOUT ALL OF US WHO HAVE LOST OUR HOMES. HOW CAN THAT PERSON(S) SLEEP AT NIGHT NOT CARING ABOUT IF OUR CHILDREN HAVE A ROOF OVER THEIR HEADS AND WHAT IS ON THE DINNING ROOM TABLE FOR OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN?? <<<<WASHINGTON>>>>, (HAVE A HEART!!) WHY ARE YOU LETTING OUR CHILDREN TO GROW UP KNOWING THAT UNCLE SAM TOOK OUR HOMES?
