Doris Matsui is only in office because her incumbent husband died during his re-election campaign. As his wife she was legally able to take his place. Since then, our entrenched voting system keeps her there without any effort on her part to do the will of the constituents.

I personally received an email from Doris after telling her to vote against the bailouts. The reply I got was something along the lines of “Though most of my constituents are against the bailouts (according to the polls) I have decided to vote in favor because I know what is best for the region.”
In other words, someone who wasn’t originally elected by the people feels she knows our needs better than we do.

Gotta love arrogance from person meant to represent, not dictate.

your argument against the “no more solyndras act” is a compelling one. That the gov must invest in private companies because other governments do. And that just because one investment goes bad doesn’t mean they all go bad.

While I agree that one bad egg doesn’t mean you stop buying eggs I disagree with your position that the government is responsible to protect private industry from foreign competition. I would rather live in a country where the gov kept out of the private sector and were a bit less profitable but still maintained its integrity. The gov should not be interfering in private industry. Even if other governments do that doesn’t mean we should or have to. Instead of providing subsides how about we get our tax code simplified and make it easy to do business here?
