Minnick is a disappointment to Idaho Democrats. I believe the voters were duped into thinking he was a real democrat, but now he is showing his true colors. So much for change.

  • Anonymous 02/03/2009 3:35pm

I’m an Idaho Democrat, too. I see that Walt is currently voting with the Democratic Party more than with the GOP (57% as of February 2). I don’t know that we can expect much more in the Idaho 1st CD – and I’d much rather have him representing us than Bill Sali!

  • Anonymous 02/07/2009 6:13am

Anyone who is surprised, or disappointed by Minnick’s votes wasn’t paying attention during the campaign. Walt repeatedly stated in clear and unambiguous terms that he was a social moderate and a fiscal conservative. His votes bear that out. I am an Idaho Democrat that realized that getting 60% support from Walt was a whole lot better than getting 0% from any Republican representative. Those Democrats who are complaining about not getting a “real democrat” just aren’t accepting the political realities of living in Idaho.

As someone who voted for you, I was very disappointed when I heard that you did not support our president. Idahoans voted for you because we want change. Maybe you are not it. Stick by your party and vote for the stimulus plan. Maybe you’re rich enough that you don’t need it but we do!!

Yes. We want Idaho to stop being a great place to live and be more like California. They’re so great!!! Only Ada wants change. The real Idaho, the rest of Idaho wants Idaho LEFT ALONE!

Who wants Idaho to be more like California. I’m born & raised Idaho AND a Democrat. “The real Idaho” designation is just as disgusting as the meme of being “a real American.” Remaining static breeds staleness.

No… There is Ada County… then there’s the rest of Idaho. Ada County (i.e. Democrats) wants to run Idaho into the ground just like California with its social programs and spending. The REST of Idaho sticks with it’s fiscal responsiblity. If Democrats had their way, they would eliminate the provision within the Idaho Constitution that makes it illegal for the state budget to go into the red. They would impoverish it’s citizens with far reaching taxes and further expanding state government and social programs. The truth is, if you’re anything but independent, you’re just another tool of the two party dominated system. Good luck with that…

For once, a Democrat stood for what his constituents wanted and voted against the Health Care Reform farce. I’m not a fan of Minnick, but I’m actually glad he stood up for what us Idahoans wanted… I’m also glad that he agreed with Idahoans in saying that Idahoans dont need to be told what is good for them by the Democratic Party mass (Obama, Pelosi, Reid et al.) I’m also glad he voted against the stimulus… It was wrong to further expand the national debt by enacting the single largest spending bill in US history. Good job Minnick!

Just because he is better than Sali is no claim to fame. Craig was better than Sali but do you want him in office? Minnick is supposed to be a Democrat! He needs to start acting like one. He was voted in because he was running on the Democratic ticket and not because of his stance on anything. Don’t kid yourself Walt! You could have had two heads and run on the Democratic ticket and you would have won. Start listening to the people who put you in office!!!

Nobody should be surprised, considering that this guy is from Idaho. I was personally surprised that a Democrat from Idaho was even elected into Congress.

Ummmm…. Don’t you have a bankrupt state to fix, Mr. Anonymous Californian?

  • Anonymous 02/27/2009 5:38am

I’ve written to Walt twice expressing my disappointment in his vote, in particular on the stimulus package. I have yet to hear back, and don’t expect to. Having voted with the rest of our red state against this package, I wonder how he plans (along with the other nay-sayers) to spend our share of it. Since our schools in District 1 are in so much trouble I’d like to see some of this money go where it will do some good. However, being blanketed in the backward red attitude which says “I don’t have any kids in school, so why should I vote for levies, etc.?” I fear Walt will attempt to please his republican base.

That “backward red attitude” is WHY Idaho is a better place to live than California, Portland, and Seattle. So, which ever of those you’re from, kindly go back and stop trying to change MY RED STATE! We live here. We hunt here. We work here. We raise our families here. And we vote here. It is a sad state of affairs when the peoples republik of Ada sets the political direction for this great agricultural state. If you don’t farm, you should only get 1/100 of a vote to make up for the sickly mass of carbon-copied California liberals in Ada County.
(And don’t try to say you’ve lived here all your life or that you live somewhere other than Ada, Mr. Anonymous. We all know better. Even the other liberals here.)

Maybe it’s because you’re not really an Idaho citizen… He’s responded to EVERY SINGLE ONE of my messages! I’ve sent at least 10 since he took office… He might actually respond to you if you were his CONSTITUENT!

I find it interesting that after Walt was with Nixon and left because he felt the republican party pulled away from his beliefs, that he now votes pretty much along the thick red line of our state. Wouldn’t it be remarkable if instead of pandering to the republican base, he encouraged people to learn more about Keynesian economic theory and how it applies to us, and also to remind those Idahoans that earn less than $250,000 (the majority of us) that our taxes are not going up. Wow, what a thought. He could even send us a letter explaining all this if he cared enough to re-assure us.

    As I’ve said before… Constituent=Response… Non-constituent=non-response… Go figure…

  • brian_in_idaho 03/28/2009 7:57pm

I’m encouraged that Walt is doing a good job of representing Idaho citizens and voting for what is right, rather than blindly following the party line. As bad as Bush’s excess spending was, he had a $400 billion deficit last year…Obama’s is projected to be $1.85 trillion for ‘09. The country can’t afford his policies, I’m glad to see that Mr. Minnick is smart enough to see that.

I believe Walt is doing what the citizens of the state of Idaho want, so far. I’m very conservative (and so is the entire state except the 200,000 Pacific Coast transplants in Ada County.) Keep it up walt! You may get re-elected.
As far as the rest of you go, I will just patiently wait for your overblown homeloans and everpriced cappucinos to dry up, so you can go away. You came here because it was different from L.A. and San Fransisco. So stop trying to make it like L.A. and San Fransisco. If you want to give away money, give away your own, not mine. If you want to ban guns, do it somewhere they aren’t needed (L.A.). If you want communism/socialism, go somewhere that it works…. Oh, that’s right there IS nowhere it works.
Keep drinking the kool-aid. I’m sure your Obamessiah will make all our lives perfect. (Whether we want it or not.)

No different than drinking the koolaid of your messiah – Cheney & Bush (co-presidents or one puppet, one master)

200K Pacific Coast transplants – oh, so not true. You offer nothing but name calling, put-downs, bullsh*t, and other word twisty-turns. The entire state is NOT very conservative. I was born & raised here – on a farm – and Democrat.

As for communism/socialism. Okay – communism and socialism are NOT the same thing. Systems that work in the U.S. Medicare, Tricare, the VA medical centers ….. do you take advantage of any of these programs? You’re supporting socialized medicine.

  • Comm_reply
    justamick 10/05/2010 11:25am

Hey! Genius! Those who use Tricare are REQUIRED to as military members (served 7 years in the USAF, I know what I’m talking about… do you?!)! Those who are RETIRED, Guard, Reserve are NOT required to because they PAY for the coverage! VA Medical centers are also OPTIONAL for those who do use them… So, what’s you’re point?! You’ve already been shot down on two out of three of your arguments…

If your argument is that the Military functions on a socialist system, the okay, yeah and your point is? The military is an authoritarian society and thus the only way it can properly function and carry out it’s missions… That’s also why they have civilian oversight. Any more useless arguments you’d like to make?

Sounds to me like you’ve been drinking a bit too much of the Obama Kool Aid.

I am glad to see that Walt Minnick is at least thinking before he votes on bills in Washington. He votes his convictions and what he thinks is right for Idahoans. He is not one to be lead by the nose to the Democratic watering trough just to get the Atta Boys from his party. He is my kind of Blue Dog.

  • silent7seven 08/10/2009 9:20pm

I am disheartened by all the congress men and women that vote over 90% on their party lines, don’t write any legislation (RISCH), and have a loooooooong list of special interest donations. I am willing to bet that Walt is at least reading bills then voting (we have such sad expectations of our elected officials). Please note that Minnick did not vote for the stimulus bill (against party), but he at least suggested an alternative.
