Richard Lugar's crop commodity reform bill, <a href="http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-s2228/show">the FRESH Act</a>, which is cosponsored by <a href="http://www.opencongress.org/people/show/300064_frank_lautenberg">Frank Lautenberg</a> (D-NJ), was rejected on Wednesday as an amendment to the Farm Bill. The bill would reduce subsidies to the meat and cheese industries (among others) and funnel more to small growers of vegetables and fruits. It also seeks to provide schools with more fresh produce, leading to healthier lunches for children.
