California's 16th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of California that from 2003-2013 covered part of Santa Clara County and included much of central San Jose. The district is currently represented by Democrat Jim Costa. The district now is centered in the Central Valley, and includes the cities of Fresno and Merced. As a result of a redistricting initiative passed during the 2010 election, most of the former 16th district, along with parts of the former 11th and 15th districts, will be part of the new 19th district beginning in the 2012 elections; the new 16th district will occupy the areas around Merced and Fresno.
