California's 39th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of California based in Los Angeles County. The district covers part of southeastern Los Angeles County and includes Lynwood, Cerritos, Lakewood, La Mirada, and Whittier. The district is currently represented by Democrat Linda T. Sánchez. The 39th Congressional District was originally one of five reapportioned to California after the 1970 U.S. Census. The district as currently drawn was created for the 108th Congress following post-2000 U.S. Census redistricting. The previous 39th Congressional District was a Republican stronghold, territory now mostly redesignated into the neighboring 40th Congressional District and 42nd Congressional District.
