Kansas's 4th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Kansas. Based in the south central part of the state, the district encompasses 11 counties including the city of Wichita. The district is currently represented by Republican Mike Pompeo who was elected in 2010 to succeed fellow Republican Todd Tiahrt who vacated the seat in his unsuccessful bid for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate. Following redistricting after the 2000 U.S. Census, there were 672,101 people, 261,106 households, and 177,358 families residing in the district. The population density was 70.5/mi² over a land area of 9,531 square miles (24,690 km). There were 285,830 housing units at an average density of 30.0/mi².
