North Carolina's eighth congressional district consists of a large portion of southern North Carolina from Charlotte to Fayetteville, including Concord, Albemarle, Monroe, Wadesboro, Troy, Rockingham, Laurinburg, and Raeford. The district includes all of Anson, Hoke, Montgomery, Richmond, Scotland, and Stanly counties, as well as portions of Cabarrus, Cumberland, Mecklenburg, and Union counties. The district is currently represented by Larry Kissell, a member of the Democratic Party. He won the seat in 2008 after defeating five-term Republican incumbent Robin Hayes. (More from Freebase)
