On June 6, 2008 the Dow Jones plunged 395 points, oil price spiked to $139 a barrel and the Labor Dept. reported that the economy lost 49,000 jobs in May. With such dire signs of economic doom and gloom you would think that our elected representatives would take immediate action to stimulate the economy by passing HR 5749, the Emergency Extended Unemployment Compensation Act of 2008. Instead, our representatives (and I use that term loosely) caved in to Bush's harebrained "stimulus check" scheme back when Ted Kennedy proposed S 2544. It's obvious that fuel prices have had a domino effect on the rest of the economy. Coupled with the housing crises, which has affected the financial, insurance and building sectors; the country is headed for an even more serious economic meltdown than is predicted. Although bureaucrats love to assure the public that we’re technically not in a recession, try telling that to the middle class who on a daily basis has to make tough decisions on whether to eat, fill the gas tank or pay the rent or mortgage. It seems like everyone but our elected officials realizes that that the U.S. needs to take immediate action NOW to avert a catostrophic economic Armagedon that will have far reaching implications not only for Americans but the entire world. One way to stimulate the economy would be to IMMEDIATELY pass HR 5749. HR 5749 will keep thousands of people in their homes and provide an infusion of cash into an American economy that has become stagnent from lack of consumer confidence. Below is the list of California representatives and how they voted on HR 5749. It’s interesting to note that all California representatives voted along party lines, (i.e. California Democrats voted in favor (aye) and California Republicans voted against (nay) passage of HR 5749.) I think we need to send a clear message to the Republicans in November that they need to stop diverting all of our resources to Iraq and start taking care of things back here at home. Americans need relief NOW and one way to start would have been to support legislation to help AMERICAN CITIZENS FIRST! Any politician (Republican or Democrat) that voted against HR 5749 needs to be replaced come election time! HOW YOUR CALIFORNIA REPRESENTATIVES VOTED ON HR 5749 Rep. Ken Calvert [R, CA-44] Nay Rep. After having served honorably in Afghanistan and Iraq, I returned to a shaky US economy in July 2006 and was fortunately able to find a job relatively quickly. However, in late August 2007 I was laid-off and have been unable to find work since. It seems obvious to everyone but the politicians that the economy is in a downward spiral. I think the experts call it a RECESSION! It seems that most politicians are too busy feeding at the trough at the public's expense, and are so disconnected to the reality of the economic crisis occurring in the country to even notice the disasterous state of the economy. Can you say, "HOME MORTGAGE CRISIS, HIGH FUEL PRICES, STAGFLATION, RAMPANT UNEMPLOYMENT, MEDICAL INSURANCE COSTS THAT HAVE TRIPLED IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS?" Oh yea, I forgot, politicians get the best medical insurance plans for FREE. I know, you've got to look out for No. 1. Is this how politicians repay servicemen and women that risked their lives when called for duty? It's disgusting to see fat cat politicians living "high on the hog" while the rest of us are left scrambling for crumbs. Our elected representatives need to get their heads out of their. . . the sand. We're in a RECESSION and the unemployed need relief RIGHT NOW, not tomorrow. Let's move HR 5749 along.

If the UI extension doesn't pass, I and millions of other unemployed Americans are going to lay this squarely on the feet of John McCain. This will be his test to see how much REAL clout Mr. McCain has with not only with the current administration but with his colleagues, both Democrat and Republican. After all, if he wants to run for the highest office land in the office, he had better be able to pass critical legislation to help Americans in their time or need, otherwise he's just another worthless political hack! Desperate, unemployed Americans with lots of time on their hands won't easily forget in November how the the man running on the Republican ticket either didn't have the clout or the willingness to close the deal on the UI extension legislation. If the UI extension doesn't pass, Obama won't be blamed because he's voted it for it twice (once when Kennedy proposed it at the beginning of they year) and now in its present form. Whereas McCain has only now half-heartedly endorsed it for the sake of political expediency. But if McCain is able to exert his influence in passage of this critical legislation, he's got mine and probably the several other million unemployed Americans in his corner on November.

These Heartless Blue Dogs democrats (including you Mr. Schiff) who are living high on the hog with their free rade A insurance plans while the rest of us pay through the nose for any type of half-way decent medical medical coverage. Congress should have passed S2544 when Ted Kennedy proposed it back in the beginning of the year. Good Bless Ted Kennedy for trying to help the average Joe. At least Kennedy's S2544 would have served as a buffer for the downward spiral that the economy now faces and possibly bought people some time to try to get back on their feet before being thrown out of their homes or face financial ruin. However, unlike the honorable Mr. Kennedy, our California elected representative, Mr. Schiff is too busy sponoring obscure and idiotic resolutions (like H. Res. 106) that do nothing to help AMERICANS here at home. H. Res. 106 calls on the President to "ensure that the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate understanding of the Armenian Genocide" and to "accurately characterize the systematic and deliberate annihilation of 1,500,000 Armenians as genocide." Now tell me Mr. Schiff, how does H. Res. 106 help the average American TODAY with the high price of gas, or with trying to survive in this difficult economy? Now if you chose to focus your energy on the Armenian genocide issue, DO IT ON YOUR OWN TIME. Don't waste taxpayer money on trying to ensure that the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate understanding of the Armenian Genocide. Honestly, nobody but a few freaking Armenians in Glendale give a rat's ass about the Armenian Genocide issue. Oh but wait, Mr. Schiff didn't waste taxpayer money pushing H. Res. 106. He and Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz also visted Armenia and Azerbaijan. Mr. Schiff further wasted taxpayer money by introducing a bill urging Turkey to lift blockade of Armenia. Mr. Schiff also attended an event on Capitol Hill honoring of the 93rd Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. At this event, Mr. Schiff vowed to continue to lead efforts in Congress to recognize the Armenian Genocide. Again, Mr. Schiff, why don't you concentrate pushing through some real legislation, like HR 5749, that would extend unemployment benefits to unemployed AMERICANS. Better yet Mr. Schiff, why don't you just introduce a bill to provide benefits to all the unemployed ARMENIANS since this is the constituency that you waste most of your time supporting. No, I've got a better idea. Mr. Schiff, why don't you just run for the KING OF ARMENIA and let someone who will really represent California's interests have your slot. I guess Mr. Schiff just plan to wait until half of America loses their jobs, is thrown out of their homes because of the mortgage crises and the economy hits the skids before taking action. Mr. Schiff, voters will remember how you and your heartless Blue Dogs democrats sold them out and turned their back on Americans come election time. Below is a list of the other heartless Blue Dogs democrats that are blocking passage of HR 5749. I urge to you write to them and express your concern. I urge our representatives to pass HR 5749, The Emergency Extended Unemployment Compensation Act. Politicians need to realize that Americans struggling to pay their mortgage, put food on the table and just plain survive in a time of econmic crisis. Let's not forget that the Senate missed passing S. 2544 (The Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2008) back at the beginning of the year. Instead, these spineless representatives caved in to a lame duck heartless president, who chose to placate the masses with some measley "stimulus package" that won't amount to a hill of beans. After having served honorably in Afghanistan and Iraq, I returned to a shaky US economy in July 2006 and was fortunately able to find a job relatively quickly. However, in late August 2007 I was laid-off and have been unable to find work since. I have been working since I was 16 years old and have never seen such a depressed economy. It seems obvious to everyone but the politicians (and particularly to Bush) that the economy is in a downward spiral. Get a clue Mr. Bush, the whole damn country is RECESSION! It seems that most politicians are too busy feeding at the trough at the public's expense, and are so disconnected to the reality of the economic crisis occurring in the country to even notice the disasterous state of the economy. Can any politician say, "HOME MORTGAGE CRISIS, FORECLOSURES, HIGH FUEL PRICES, HIGH FOOD PRICES, STAGFLATION, RAMPANT UNEMPLOYMENT, MEDICAL INSURANCE COSTS THAT HAVE TRIPLED IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS?" Oh yea, I forgot, Senators and Congress members get the best medical insurance plans for FREE!! You know what wounded vets get after they've been blown to pieces in Iraq or Afghanistan? A freaking bill from the government! That's right. My buddy who lost his legs and eyesight in a roadside bomb and had to undergo multiple surgeries, received a bill from the government for $138,000. $130,000 for the medical treatment and $8,000 because of the damage to the radio equipment that was under his control at the time of the bombing. Is this how politicians repay servicemen and women that risked their lives when called for duty? It's disgusting to see fat cat politicians living "high on the hog" while the rest of us are left scrambling for crumbs. Well, the politicians have got to look out for No. 1 of course. Bush and the spineless politicians that failed to vote for the unemployment extension think that the measly stimulus checks are going to get the economy back on track. HA! What a joke. These politicians need to WAKE UP and get their freaking heads out of their . . . the sand. We're in a RECESSION and the unemployed need relief RIGHT NOW, not tomorrow or the next day, RIGHT NOW. LET'S PASS HR 5749 WITHOUT FURTHER DELAY!

God Bless you Ted Kennedy for sponsoring S2544. You're one of the few politicians that still watches out for the average Joe. I and my family would be very greatful for a few more weeks of unemployment compensation just to get us thru this rough patch until another job comes around. After having served honorably in Afghanistan and Iraq, I returned to a shaky US economy in July 2006 and was fortunately able to find a job relatively quickly. However, in late August 2007 I was laid-off and have been unable to find work since. I have been working since I was 16 years old (now 35) and have never seen such a depressed economy. It seems obvious to everyone but the greediest of politicians politicians (and particularly to Bush) that the economy is in a downward spiral. Am I the only sane constituent that Adam Schiff has? No wonder he runs amok, not passing any meanful legislation. No disrespect to the Armenian people, but honestly Mr. Schiff, what good does it do Americans in this day and age when you waste valuable time sponsoring idiot resolutions condemning the massacre of Amernians? Have you got nothing better to do? How about pushing through some real legislation like S. 2544 - the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2008, or relief for mortgage crisis, or look into why the oil companies are f...ing every time we go to the pump? Mr. Schiff, how 'bout helping Mr. Lawrence Richards (who posted a message on this board on March 1, 2008) with some mental health assistance. Pass some meaningful legislation Mr. Schiff and make your So. Cal. constituents proud lest the voters decide you are not serving their interest and vote you out of office.

Although bureaucrats love to assure the public that we’re technically not in a recession, try telling that to the middle class who on a daily basis have to make tough decisions on whether to eat, fill the gas tank or pay the rent or mortgage. It seems like everyone but our elected officials realize that that the U.S. needs to take immediate action NOW to avert a catostrophic economic Armagedon that will have far reaching implications not only for Americans but the entire world. California Democrats voted in favor (aye) and California Republicans voted against (nay) passage of HR 5749.) WRITE TO YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND SEND THEM A CLEAR MESSAGE AS TO HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT HOW THEY VOTED ON HR 5749. We need to let the Republicans know before November, that that they need to stop diverting all of our resources to Iraq and START TAKING CARE OF THINGS HERE AT HOME! Americans need relief NOW and one way to start would have been to support legislation to help AMERICAN CITIZENS FIRST!
