  • boomer47 : I have problems with this because it seems to narrow our second ammendment RIGHT. WE currently have a second ammendment right to bear arms for any purpose. This seems to remove from the definition the right to protect ourselves from an over zealous government which a reading of Federalist 46 makes abundantly clear we have the right to do. Personally... I don't like it. It seems to me if we allow this to pass we are supporting allowing congress to restrict what is already a RIGHT and thus sliding further into tyranny. We have a RIGHT to bear arms it needs no definition.

  • cbass94 : With current sales tax rates, the small amount of bartering that does happen makes almost no difference in the taxes that the government collects. Not to mention, the fact that sales tax rates are already low helps to keep bartering to a minimum. If people had to pay more directly to the government on every transaction, they simply wouldn't make the transaction with money and that would force the government to raise the taxes even higher thus further reinforcing the cycle. Ultimately, they'd end up going back to the system we have today. The bottom line is the government needs to use what they have more effectively not simply try and get it another way.

  • baldeagle : The problem with the flat income tax or any other income tax is people lie just as well as politicians. It is easier to hide your income than it is what you spend. I was against the fair tax until I found out about the prebate. Poorer people get the help they need up front. Voting out all incumbents and passing the fair tax would go a long way toward correcting the path this country is on.
  • durkee : I think the fairest way to tax is a flat rate income tax. drop all the rest of the taxes, fees and deductions. Gov. just keeps sneaking in fees, sin taxes, hotel, airport and so on. the deficet is out of controland the gov just wants to keep on spending. vote in conservatives when you get the chance or where all going to be in the proverble crapper.

I live in NC, and I have seen new road projects, libraries, schools, etc. that are being built. We need to do more to help the people of this country.   • nsbishop74 : They are offering modifications! The bank offered to add 16 years to my mortgage. What a deal! How is putting me into more debt helping? They also said they could possibly lower my interest rate too! But only after giving me a 40 yr. mortgage and they wouldn't tell me what that rate would be. I already have a 5 3/8% rate. And when I asked, I was told that they didn't do "the hope for homewoner's program.' I was not irresponsible. I had excellent credit my whole life. I put 20% down on a conventional mortgage on a home I had planned to raise my family in. Even after a divorce and taking out a second mortgage to buy the ex out of his share of the equity(when the house still had positive equity!)I didnt mind working the ot every weekend and working midnights to work towards a future for my children and myself. I was working towards something! Now what? What am I working towards? My neighbor just payed half of what I paid for my home. And he got a credit!
  • dfharing : Interestingly enough, the people that you are worried about benefiting from this bill (i.e. the investors looking to flip the home to make a quick profit) already have the ability to "cram down" the mortgage on an investment property; this has been part of the bankruptcy code for years. The ONLY people who cannot use this tool are the people who use the home for their primary residence. So, the only people who would be helped are those who were duped into believing that they could afford the mortgage by a bank who gave them the loan with teaser rates and ridiculous terms. Thus, the only people who would be hurt by this bill are big banks, and the only ones that would be helped are main street victims of predatory lending. As I said before, the speculators CAN ALREADY DO THIS, THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO CAN'T ARE THE PEOPLE WHO USE THE HOMES AS THEIR PRIMARY RESIDENCE!!!!!

If it is how can we trust Mr. Obama and you guys(SCOTUS, House, Senate, FBI,CIA, etc) with something as massive as this when you and he can't cleanup simple matters from like simply providing a righteous response for a simple request to confirm Mr. Obama's natural born US citizenship status. Ratherthan simply put this to rest by sending the information requested, I understand Mr. Obama and others named in lawsuits around the country have hired several powerful law firms requesting dismissal and to seal access to all of Mr. Obama's records(vault copy of BC, college records, immigration records, medical records, ect.). I bet that costs lots money. Why not spend a few bucks and just provide the information? Would that clear the matter up amnd build trust in everyone. Before you say it, let me ask: Since when was "FactCheck.org." Appointed offical vetting agency for the election process? In Texas, I understand the plaintiff's request for dismissal used was that they have "Official Immunity." This gives me great faith and trust in my President & everyone that did not demand his accountability! I understand Pelosi, Howard Dean and the DNC are responsible to make sure these matters are properly perfomed? HAs anyone asked them? I also understand a Phil Berg of the Democratic Party advised Mr. Obaqma he was not elligible way back when he first considered entering the race? Then why are there still lawsuits and hush by the Mainstream media? And the Subpoena from Occidental(see below)? Mr. Obama can very simply put this to rest as he did the concerns of Rev. Wright. He didn't get attorny's to resolve that matters? I would like it know that this country or any other country cannot survive with such outrageous tactics. Of course, some individuals in the Government, citizens too, believes that any and all means are necessary to protect and defend the citizens of this Great Nation, and I agree. The thing is, these Satellites can and are being used for seeking out and disrupting individuals from their normal everyday activities. Satellite technology is a dastardly thing to citizens in any country when that technology becomes a controlling factor to those citizens living “the pursuit of happiness’ dream. I’m not crying out for myself alone. I am convinced others are being affected by the government, being spied upon and done harm. These satellites are affecting many of this country’s citizens, people who have no intention of disrupting the government. People I know and love, are being attacked and penetrated in a harmful way; and, I’m thinking, these citizens are unawares of what’s happening to them, not realizing their infirmity could and are being created by the U S Government Satellites program and their coordinators. I am personally dumbfounded at how many people I know, or had known, have illnesses that could very well be the result of harmful vibrations that originate from satellites. I’m hoping you aren’t thinking “what an imagination, satellites doing harm to a United States citizen”? Naturally, not having any real proof on my part, I could refer to the News Media, where reports have come out that Satellites are capable of impeding citizens from their normal existence. I’m sure the people of this great nation would like to know if they said something, whether meaningful or off the cuff, with no intention of changing the society in which they live, that they could easily be tormented. Even government employees and elected office members could be under surveillance and done harm, without them even knowing it. Individuals can be located and monitored, in the home, driving a car, even grocery shopping; and, unless the individual becomes concealed and/or are no longer identified, they can be harmed by the U S Government Satellites Program. I happen to fall into the category that gets a large refund every year and would gladly give up that refund to help America get stronger and recover from this horrific economic crash. The amount of refund I get does not in anyway effect whether I work or not or how long I work, it is simply the fact that our income is so low now that we fall into the poverty category.
  • Anonymous : Elected Officials, I am an Enrolled Agent (Tax Pro) with a tax practice in Columbia SC as well as a 20 yr military veteran. I am deeply concerned about HR 598 being touted as a middle class tax cut. This bill is not a middle class tax cut. When you take into account Making Work Pay, Increase in EITC, and Increase in eligibility for the refundable portion of child tax credit, this bill primarily increases the refund of a lower income individual and decreases their will to work. I receive hundreds of phone calls each year from individuals wanting to know when they need to quit working to maximize their EITC benefits, these changes will only increase this practice. If you were to compare under current law two single parents with 2 children one making $15,000 per year (who currently pays no income tax but gets a refund of $5,799) to one making $35,650 per year (who currently pays $4 in income tax, before non- refundable credits, but gets a refund of $622) Under HR 598 The single parent making $15,000 a year would see an increase of $1,525 of refund, while the other would only see an increase of $500. This is not an incentive to work, nor is it a middle income tax cut! A true tax cut would reduce the first X amount of dollars subject to income tax from 10% down to 5% or even 0% and increase the amount taxable at 10% thus reducing some income subject to tax from 15% to 10%. This would lower the taxes of all Americans. Under the Recovery for Business portion of the bill although I think it is needed to give incentives to businesses to increase spending on capital goods, however it is nothing more then a tax cut for the rich. It is possible under this plan for a MFJ couple with 2 children making $380,000 to pay $0 in income tax and still get a refund of over $6,000 using EITC & the new child tax credits in HR598. My clients come from varying income levels some single parents making $9000 a yr to Married taxpayers with children making in excess of $1 million, so I develop the plan based on their particular needs to minimize their tax liabilities, but for this country to remain strong I firmly believe this plan is not what we need. With no jobs there is no earned income with no earned income there is no EITC or child tax credit, and then there goes the country. So why not tailor a plan to give employers an incentive to hire more workers. Give them all a tax credit based on the amount of SS and Medicare taxes paid relative to the amount paid in the previous years or something similar to the tax credit given to employers of tipped employees. This would lower their taxes, give them an incentive to hire US workers, give more people jobs, increase the spendable income of most individuals, and improve the economy. It would additionally decrease the cost to employers that currently hire workers under the table, so then maybe those workers who are underground would be forced to become taxpaying citizens. Any plan will take time, but this plan is nothing more then a tax cut for the rich, and a front for welfare. Remember, if you give a man a fish he eats for a day, but if you teach him how to fish he eats for a lifetime. Evidently we as Americans have forgotten how to fish.
