In correcting myself, they are FOIAable, but, far less receptive to it than other departments.

alex 08/06/2009 11:33am

Secret Service is not FOIA’able, making this piece of legislation significantly less desirable. Ideally, huge breaches that would be covered by this provision would be made public.

alex 08/06/2009 11:20am

Good bill were it not centrally reporting to the secret service.

alex 08/06/2009 10:37am

I presume this includes DNA

alex 08/06/2009 10:37am

This is wonderfully aggressive. Few equivalent proposals include Mother’s maiden name information, or date of birth.

Jobs to produce vehicles that nobody is purchasing? I understand the impact on families employed by the industry, but clearly GM and the UAW refuse to adapt in order to survive. Instead, they want us to pay for it. They want you and I to pay for employees so that they can build cars nobody wants.

I applaud the senate for tossing this one out. They should have done the same with the 700 billion. Seems our revered president is going to go against the wishes of Congress and give the auto industry money anyways, further highlighting the enormity of the failure of the 700 billion dollar bailout package.

alex 01/25/2008 7:05am

Great idea, but only if the income tax is indeed repealed. I recall the promise of a national sales tax and elimination of income taxes in a country north of us. They ended up with both, AND STILL paying provincial income taxes.

alex 01/23/2008 9:12am

Equal Opportunity taken to the Nth level of insanity. Employers need to communicate with their employees, including federal employers, and needn’t be burdened by unreasonable and unenforceable ideas like this. This is just silly. Glad someone is attempting to complain about it.

alex 01/17/2008 11:22am

No bill should be allow to be this large. If a legislator can’t read and understand it in a reasonable amount of time, it really shouldn’t get an “Aye” vote.

alex 01/17/2008 11:16am

Parents and retailers? How are they to tell if a toy contains lead paint, or any other toxic substance for that matter. Relying on the free market to ensure people aren’t poisoning our children via their toys isn’t something I feel very comfortable with. I’d rather see more manufacturing come back here, but that won’t happen, and as a result I support the idea of some government oversight.

alex 01/15/2008 8:38pm

Wait…maybe I’m not following here, but…isn’t it already illegal to sell weapons to terrorists? Isn’t just being a terrorist illegal? What exactly is a terrorist? so confused…

alex 01/15/2008 8:33pm

I’m all for proper labeling of video games and their content, as well as ratings and the like, but does this REALLY require federal legislation? Shouldn’t something like this be up to individual states?

alex 01/15/2008 8:28pm

Slippery slope. I agree with zachtobias, I don’t see a significant threat here. I oppose it, however, because I don’t see a need for a committee to analyze something that our existing law enforcement / criminal justice system can and already has the power to handle. Waste of time and money. But I don’t see it as a threat to civil liberties.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but at this point, I think there are better things to spend time on in the coming months. I doubt this will pass, and as such, why not focus on legislation that actually 1) makes a difference, and 2) is achievable.

alex 01/15/2008 8:21pm

Agreed. I think the term marriage should be stripped completely from government.
