H.R.157 - District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act of 2009
- jeremy_neel : Just to clarify, I do realize that this law is unconstitutional and an Amendment is required in lieu of cession to Maryland.
- jeremy_neel : I support the cession of most of the District back to Maryland, but first the state legislature of Maryland has to agree to it. The federal government cannot force a state to take new lands.
Once that bit is done, all that has to remain in the District is the Capitol and perhaps Congress' office buildings, the White House, and the Supreme Court.
I do however, support HOUSE voting representation for every American citizen and an Electoral College voting representation equal to those Americans' Congressional representation. I believe the citizens currently living in D.C. should be represented in the House regardless of whether it is a D.C. congressman or a Maryland congressman that does it, but the 3 electoral votes that the District controls should be reduced to that number of Congressmen, which as of the 2000 Census, should result in 1 voting member of the U.S. House and, thus, 1 electoral vote.

H.R.1409 - Employee Free Choice Act of 2009
- dankennedy73 : Yes, I supose the argument for our liberties is getting old. Let's just all of us shut up and allow the conservatives to strip all our rights from us without a word of dissent....will that make you happy?
- dankennedy73 : I have to agree with mlittle145, I'm for unions. When they are ran right and responsibly, they do take care of the rights of the workers. It is now wonder that big corporations wish to see their demise.

S.651 - Compensation Fairness Act of 2009
- bmwtriton : And if it WAS retroactive it would be an ex post facto law, and therefore be unconstitutional
- annelisejd : This is a waste of paper. This bill is not even retroactive. The tax begins January 1, 2009. It really is time we hold our politicians accountable, many need to be arrested.

H.R.875 - Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009
- PatMeaney : Part of the problem of food production depending so heavily on oil is the growing use of GMO foods many of which are modified seeds that produce much higher yields. They are designed to be resistant to pesticides allowing crops to be sprayed heavily with highly toxic pesticides such as Roundup and Atrazine. Farmers then need three times more water to irrigate GMO crops, resulting in further drainage of the world's fresh water supplies.
To sever the relationship between oil and food will require a major paradigm shift in how we produce food. In the words of Richard Hienberg (2005): "Given the fact that fossil fuels are limited in quantity and we are already in view of the global oil production peak, the debate over the potential productivity chemical-gene engineered agriculture and agroecological farming may be relatively pointless. We must turn to a food system that is less fuel reliant, even if it does prove to be less productive."
**All of this is from the above link**
- PatMeaney : In contrast to the paradigm shift in Cuba, the U.S. government is continuing to provide generous subsidies to agribusiness, thus postponing the day when a transformation in farming methods can be set in motion. For example, there were three types of agricultural subsidies and in 2008: the government paid our $12.2 billion in direct subsidies with 62% going to commercial farms; $5.2 billion in commodity payments with 76% going to commercial farms; $2.7 billion in conservation payments with 33% going to commercial farms.

S.160 - District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act of 2009
- bdg333 : The Constitution was made to ensure it could not be changed to suit people's wants. However, many just think the ideas are purely elastic and mean anything and everything.
- bdg333 : As ann coulter said, if they couldn't say dumb, they would lose half their arguement.
if they lost "racist" they would have to use facts.

H.R.1586 - Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act
- dgtxpride : John Faulk explained that the U.S. Federal Department of Education is one of the largest bureaucracies. The government is trying to shore up money going into the police unions, firemen unions, and the teachers unions. Nancy Pelosi even called Congress back in session during the August recess (time supposed to be allotted to town hall meetings) to pass this bill in order to pay back unions for their support of the Obama Administration.
John Faulk further explained that the 18th Congressional District of Texas has nine independent school districts. The reason it's set up that way is because the education should be in the control of the local people - the parents, the taxpayers, and the officials working for the school districts. John Faulk explained that each school district has its own set of unique issues, but the federal government wants to come in and take a one-size-fits-all approach to the school system, and this will not be good for the children......
