Not according to Citizen’s United, they don’t.

gosox5555 11/19/2011 2:29pm

This is probably referring to those fake Viagra spam emails that you get.

gosox5555 11/19/2011 2:24pm

Pretty much.

gosox5555 11/19/2011 2:21pm

Only the attorney general can prosecute people for breaking this law. Movie studios, for instance, could not sue. This is standard legal procedure.

This is a case where regulation is necessary and important. The right to free speech on the Internet should not be controlled and restricted by ISPs.

You realize that the term “death panel” was made up by people trying to derail the bill, right? They would never really appear in the bill, unless of course the author tried to kill their own bill sarcasm

Perfluorocarbons (PFCs) are dangerous carcinogens known for birth defects. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is often used as an inhalant drug, and can cause reproductive problems in females. Methane is violently reactive and is an asphyxiant. Please, don’t pass this horrible bill.

Dare I say, a “death panel?”

It appears to, yes.

I don’t think I can get behind this just yet. My objection is that there would be a massive increase in TV and radio ads. I suppose it would help grass-roots campaigns with $0, but it would mean that they have to reach for TV ads, and would not be able to utilize the cheaper robocalls (as annoying as they are, studies show that they do have an impact). People hate those calls, I’ve made them. And besides, this will NEVER pass, I’d be willing to bet you the Federal debt. Politicians are just a special interest that can’t be stopped.

If there is no Internet at the hotel, I am forced to rely on the mobile phone’s Internet. I watch movies over it (Netflix). I shouldn’t be penalized for this, if I’m within my allowance of bandwidth, and I especially shouldn’t be forced to watch them on YouTube or Hulu instead. The point here is that if telocos got their way, “all websites are created equal, but some websites are more equal then others.”

Which of those links (that maintains a neutral POV) show that he has “absolute power.”

1. He doesn’t appear to have anything to do with these issues. He seems to work on issues relating to diversity in the media (something that urgently needs protecting). The only one who has called him a “czar” is Glenn “Birther” Beck (not a reliable source IMHO).

Can you provide any evidence for this? I’m willing to consider it if you can.

You should note that members of the FCC are confirmed by Congress, and are subject to impeachment, just as all public officials are.

“Czar” is not a term that can just be thrown around. “Chairman” maybe, but “czar” implies absolute power, or in this country, advisory power. The FCC stands for “Federal Communications Committee” which implies that there are many members (appointed by a variety of Presidents, I might add).

In this century, the majority of us use devices, known as mobile phones. Some of us have begun using the next generation of these miraculous devices, which those who grew up in the 20th century cannot imagine. These devices are called smart phones. They rock.

This bill is excellent! It will increase efficiency and transparency in the Senate. It will also create some quality TV CSPAN-2!!

gosox5555 07/27/2010 5:56am

I would say maybe $2k. I think that a lot of small donors are still under the $200 wire.

gosox5555 01/03/2010 5:09am

Remember that you’ll be financing only mere pennies of it, most likely.

You asked where in the consitution this law is justified. Well, I think I found it:

Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution states, while listing the powers of congress:

“To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.”

I would say that they think this law is “necessary and proper.”
