    <content type="html">
Hello, my name is Kevin Thiede and i live in Westlake, Ohio. I am writing today to ask that you support H.R.2306 Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2011.

I feel that people who use marijuana are unjustly criminalized, and the war on Drugs in a massive and incredible failure.

For 70 years, our cannabis laws have failed to curb cannabis use. Also as you may know the original campaign to prohibit marijuana was based on racism and protecting corporate interests. Today, more than 800,000 arrests are made for cannabis offenses every year. 89% of these arrests are for possession, not sale or manufacture. Despite U.S enforcement efforts, our cannabis use rates are the highest of any nation surveyed by the World Health Organization, according to its most recent reports. Cannabis is a psychoactive drug, but not any more so than alcohol and arguably far safer, therefore should be subject to similar laws and regulations.

In addition, Cannabis is one of the country's largest cash crops despite being illegal. If the government were to offer licences to grow and sell this economic potential could be maximized to the benefit of the American people.

We can lower government spending by reducing our prison population (prisoners who shouldn't be in there now, as they hurt no person but possibly themselves for possessing cannabis). At the same time, we can increase government revenue from offering licences and taxing all cannabis-related commerce.

This legislation is a step in the right direction. I would very much like you to cosponsor and support H.R. 2306.

Thank you for your support,
Kevin Thiede

Sincerely,
Kevin Thiede

Sincerely,
Kevin Thiede    </content>
