S.1 - American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
- editchick7 : There are 6 million unemployed and there are not 6 million jobs. It will be a cut-throat game of musical chairs in 2010 if this bill isn't extended! Banks can't fail but the purchasing power of 6 million can? Will our parks look like Haiti full of 6 million homeless?

- scottjumps : The only problem is our government won't cut taxes on anyone. Businesses use their money to expand and create more jobs, we need to stop the false belief that all business is bad and are just keeping all of the money. Sure there are always a few, but business and the jobs and money they move are what makes America what it is!

H.R.1 - American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
- capricorn7nc : I like this bill and it has been a great benefit to projects that have been put behind. I live in NC, and I have seen new road projects, libraries, schools, etc. that are being built. We need to do more to help the people of this country. We are always pro-business, it is time to take care of the people who keep the businesses in business.

H.R.5175 - DISCLOSE Act
- erinc : This bill is about knowing who's bought off your senators & representatives on what issues. Monetary influence on elections is the opposite of democracy, guys. It's the voice of the rich, not the voice of the people. I'm downright shocked that this bill is so unpopular on this site. Are you really OK with a few wealthy executives making the decisions that impact your life? You know the strip-search body scanning machines that many Americans find pretty violating? Wouldn't you like to know if the manufacturers of those machines are donating millions to your representatives? Too bad, you really can't, if they're using an intermediary organization such as the US Chamber of Commerce. And even direct funding is completely legal. They're paying off government officials to make it mandatory for airports to buy their equipment. I think that's crazy, & I can't understand why many of my countrymen don't.
- Greenlander : In what way could that be trouble?

H.R.1207 - Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009
- PGJK : 2 things, imnavarro4, First of all inflation hasn't been fully accounted in your calculation. 60-70 years ago you could have seen a full day of movies (4-6 hours entertainment) including condiments (ie; popcorn, candy & soda) for about 25 cents, with a companion it was maybe another 5-10 cents more. Present day's cost is approx. $40 for just 2 hours of movie time (ie; entertainment + food). So its fairly safe to say you probably got more bang outta your buck back in 1913 than you get 2010.
Secondly, Federal Reserve can create money not value therefore they create inflation ...(USD: $90 now its low has been $70) or they can decrease the money supply and create deflation (lowering prices for oil and increasing the dollar’s purchasing power)..
...Thats never gonna happen this isn't Walmart where they can just rollback prices. those powers that be " Big Oil" aren't about to rollback anytime soon. When was the last time you conceded to or volunteered for a pay cut and were happy about it?

H.R.3200 - America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009
- LissieLynn2391 : Have you heard of the Patriot Act??? Talk about government infiltration.
Did you object to the Bank Bailout plan??? Frankly, if business want a laissez faire government they should solve their own problems. But it so happens that when their in the verge of bankruptcy they go running to the government to save them before the whole country faces an economic crisis. The country could have faced a crisis without government bailout but we will never really know, will we? So if theses corrupt CEOs get our tax money, shouldn't people who CANNOT afford health care have an opportunity for governmental backing?
And all this dictator, tyrant crap thrown around sounds ridicules. I can almost hear Joseph McCarthy shouting "Communist" and pointing a finger.
- Shmoman : A health care bill should not even be on the table in any form. The core issues are not being addressed and to me those are far deeper than health care itself or even the need for it. The main objection for me is to any form of government involvement that "requires" anything from the American people when matters are discussed and decided behind closed doors. As a country we have no business considering spending money! At every level of government there has been atrocious betrayal of trust, wanton disregard for the spirit of law, and worst of all is the absolute defiance of the wishes and demands of "We the People". There is no reason to hand over the health care needs of this country to government until faith has been restored and there has been no effort to do so. Furthermore, the people making these decisions for us don't have to live with the end results. It isn’t possible for one to be objective about something they will never feel the consequence from. This is totally unacceptable

H.J.Res.15 - Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to authorize the line item veto.
- pramsey : eydaimon: Thats just the point. Right now Congress tags all kinds of things that don't belong on bills that are otherwise commendable. Line item veto would allow the President to strike items. These would go back to Congress and if appropriate, the veto on specific items could be over-ridden. If Congress can't over-ride them they probably were not appropriate anyway. No King, No BS in bills, no earmarks, etc, unless the Presedent allows. Then you could lay all the blame on the President, instead of on Congress where it really belongs.
- eydaimon : tinman: it also gives the executive branch even MORE power. The scales and balances are already horribly scewed, why would you support them being even more so?
There's a reason why we have a congress to override the president. This country isn't supposed to have a KING.

S.1549 - American Jobs Act of 2011
- Ajscott123 : Can someone please rationally explain when one would oppose this bill? I'm currently reading through it so I haven't decided my position but am glad to hear perspectives in the interim.
From what I understand so far, while this is a temporary band-aid but sure could improve infrastructure which I am all for.
- Ajscott123 : Isn't that unrelated to this bill?

H.R.414 - Camera Phone Predator Alert Act
- silverfang77 : A law like that would be useless because just about any phone can be hacked and the camera sounds deleted.
- mryanbrown : What does sales have to do with anything? Most phones have the option of turning a sound on. People leave it disabled, just as some people disable it on digital cameras. Holy crap we live in a world of choice and personal responsibility.
