Founding father’s take on the issue: First you gain temporary residency from the state you reside in, then you can apply for US citizenship.

The fourteenth amendment did not change this, it requires that you be subject to the jurisdiction of the United States when born in order to be born as a citizen. This is clearly not the case for a child born to two foreign citizens temporarily or illegaly in the US, their child is a citizen of the parents nation(s)of origin.

United States Congress, “An act to establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization” (March 26, 1790): http://www.indiana.edu/~kdhist/H105-documents-web/week08/naturalization1790.html

See WalterBrown’s comment for real logic: Quoted again here for you.

To be here illegally makes you a criminal…that is what illegal means.

Sounds like you need to leave first.

Again, a no brainer, this should have been done 100 years ago! But then there are those who can’t see the forest for the trees. I know of many personally who use this big loophole to come into our country pregnant, have a baby on a tourist visa then have a little American citizen to pull strings with. SHUT THIS DOOR! I totally agree with this bill! We are not just talking about Mexicans – people worldwide know this loophole and use it to their advantage, including those who have ill-will toward America and her citizens – terrorists. Make this BILL HAPPEN!

TWENTY-THREE PERCENT?!!! God only gets TEN!!! Guess the US Gov’t is bigger than GOD! 5% is plenty, capped at 5% Tax and make it a constitutional amendment to stay within the budget and zero out our DEBT! No common sense in our gov’t any more on either side of the aisle.

Don’t make another black hole for Fed funds – make a no man’s land border with land mines between the two countries and give authorities to shoot to kill anyone entering our borders illegally. That will stop the problem quick.

Barack Hussein Obama will definitely let this bill pass if it goes through Congress (which it probably will unless the Republicans are voted in) because he himself is probably an illegal immigrant. His citizenship is still not proven. This guy has a racist for a wife and “pastor”. Plus, he has a Muslim father. I still wonder at why people voted him in. Of all people, he is voted in. He would definitely support these 2 mexicans trying to let in their illegal immigrant brothers. These illegal immigrants are a hazard to American society and that is a major concern. Another thing that has to be taken care of is the matter of being born in the states and automatically becoming a citizen. This is horrible. Illegals come into the country on a visa and have their baby in the US. then they have an American in the family. There needs to be an amendment to this law.

I totally agree with bolt. I believe that all illegal immigrants are to be kicked out of the United States and deported to wherever they came from (most likely Mexico). These democrat guys with the Mexican names supporting this outrageous bill will of course support their fellow illegal immigrant brothers in order for them to come live in the U.S. If some stranger comes in your house and says “I wanna live here”, would you let him in? Only stupid people would (democrats). Like that stranger, you don’t know if he’s a bank robber, murderer, rapist, or just some guy who wants to raid your fridge. Citizenship should be obtained the right way as it was always was. Go to the embassy and apply for citizenship and be a benefit to the USA, not some other person who is just taking up space and jobs. Some unintelligent people say “Oh but we too are illegal immigrants from the past. Why are they any different?” Well, for 1, we are not illegal immigrants, we conquered America from the brits.
