H.R.6251 - Responsible Federal Oil and Gas Lease Act
- Anonymous : If they keep the oil lease on the books, then yes, the oil is more valuable on the books and in the ground. If they sit on the lease, the cost per barrel continues to rise. Why tap the land at $100 a barrel, when they could eventually put it on the market at $200 +? It is still reflected as an asset to the company, one that climbs every day.
- Anonymous : If there were really oil beneath this land, do you think the oil companies would just be sitting on their hands? You can't develop what is not there. New more accurate surveys may have proved that there is little or no oil to be recovered in that particular area. Remember, they are a company that MUST make a profit like ANY other company.

- bsctov : Bills like this show the ignorance and pure disregard for American law that today's Democrats exhibit. A bill should be introduced to make it treason to introduce a bill like this. Simply disgusting.
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy [D, NY-4] is not an American in any sense on the word.

S.500 - Protecting Consumers from Unreasonable Credit Rates Act of 2009
- nhsadika : SavyVoter - I agree 100% - a certain part of the financial services industry is a squid wrapping its face around those vulnerable.
MOST, IF NOT ALL, the money made here is in keeping people paying fees and never actually paying principal back. The argument that these companies provide services for those in a tight-jam once in a year, is A JOKE. These companies bread and butter are people too IGNORANT about money management to know the trap they keep falling in.
END THE INSANITY.
- SavyVoter : No consumer should consider borrowing $100-$1,000 to tide them over until payday at $15-$30 per $100--it is a recipe for disaster. Say someone borrows $1,000 for an unexpected bill. If they are only able to pay the fee each payday, after 5 paydates, they will have paid the principal amount, and STILL owe the original principal of $1,000! For someone paid twice a month, that is a total of $2,000 in ten weeks! If someone is living so tightly that they can not save $1,000, what chances are there that they will have enough disposable income to pay this thing back without racking up hundreds in fees? Not much, and this is exactly what make these bottom feeders a BILLION dollar industry! Let them come up with a sane, principled business model, or let them go under so that a reasonable alternative will arise to meet the needs of low-income individuals and families, one that preferably encourages saving over borrowing.

S.181 - Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009
- luckyp3616 : I say that ANY discrimination should be illegal. I am a man, but I see it as it does not make sense to not pay them the same. So just pay them the same! Do we really need to make it hard for my mother (she is a single mother.)
- Anonymous : If you truly believe this, then you believe that all the boys are smarter and/or harder workers than all the girls --- and it's simply not true.
I've been asked (after it was illegal to do so) whether my husband was happy with the sex of our children (wondering would I get pregnant again)- not to answer would have lost me the job. I was also told point blank that a male co-worker who was not as experienced or productive was getting a bigger raise because he was going through a divorce and needed the money.
Some guys hire the dumbest woman they can find and when she can't do the job --- argue that their self-fulfilling prophecy was correct -- women just can't cut it. Enough -- equal pay for equal work is the law whether you happen to agree with it or not.
