Bio
Background
Walden, born January 10, 1957, in The Dalles, Oregon, received a bachelor of sciences from the University of Oregon in 1981.
Prior to being elected to the US House of Representatives, Walden served as Press Secretary and Chief of Staff, Congressman Denny Smith from 1981-1987. He was elected to the Oregon Legislative Assembly as a member of the House of Representatives from 1989-1995 and the State Senate from 1995 to 1997.
Congressional Career
Walden was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998 and began serving in 1999. He is a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, as well as the Resources Committee where he serves as chairman of the Subcommittee on Forests and Forest Health. Walden is also a member of The Republican Main Street Partnership and supports Stem-Cell Research.
Outside of politics, Walden is the owner of Columbia Gorge Broadcasting Company, which runs five stations in the Hood River-The Dalles corridor. Walden also is the Director of Columbia River Bank Corp. and serves on the Board of Directors of Oregon Health and Sciencs Foundation. He and his wife, Mylene, live in Hood River with their son Anthony.

In 2006, the Democrats nominated Carol J. Voisin to face Walden in his November 2006 bid for reelection. (See U.S. congressional elections in 2006) [1] Walden retained his seat.
