A 1969 graduate of Yale University, he worked as a legislative aide to U. S. Senator Marlow Cook from 1971 to 1975. Yarmuth is best known as the publisher of several alternative newspapers, the most notable of which, the Louisville Eccentric Observer, he founded in 1990 and sold in 2003.
