Oil Record

Mike Enzi has voted in favor of big oil companies on 89% of important oil-related bills, according to Oil Change International. These bills include Iraq War funding, climate change studies, clean energy, and oil import reductions. [1]See below for oil money in politics.

Bio

Enzi was born February 1, 1944 in Bremerton, Washington and grew up in Wyoming. He received a degree in accounting from George Washington University in 1966 and an M.B.A. in retail marketing from the University of Denver in 1968. He served as Mayor of Gillette, Wyoming from 1975-82. He served in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 1987-91 and in the Wyoming State Senate from 1991-96, when he was elected to the U.S. Senate.

2008 election

On April 26, 2008, Enzi announced that he would run for a third Senate term, ending months of speculation. The ranking Republican on the Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee, Enzi reportedly kept Senate leaders guessing for months about whether he would run for reelection after they snubbed his bid for a coveted seat on the Senate Finance Committee.[2]

He is being challenged by Democratic nominee Chris Rothfuss, an energy and technology expert currently teaching at the University of Wyoming after several years at the U.S. Department of State. Political analysts have predicted that there is little chance Enzi will lose in a reelection bid. His retirement would have given Democrats a much better chance of capturing the seat.[2]
