Al Hamburg was a Democratic candidate in the 2008 congressional elections for the Senate in Wyoming. He was competing with Chris Rothfuss for the Democratic nomination to challenge incumbent Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.). He was defeated in the primary that took place on Aug. 19, 2008.
