National security and foreign policy
In early May 2007, Rep. Dent organized a meeting between several moderate Republicans in the House and President Bush to express their concerns over the War in Iraq, warning the President that his pursuit of the war in Iraq was risking the future of the Republican Party, and that he could not count on Republican support for much longer. Despite their concerns, Dent and each of the members promised to oppose the short-term funding measure for the War that was being considered in the House.

Bio
Dent was born May 24, 1960 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He earned a degree in Foreign Service and International Politics from Pennsylvania State University in 1982 and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Lehigh University in Bethlehem in 1993. He worked as a development officer for Lehigh University from 1986 to 1990. Before being elected to the United States Congress in 2004, Dent was a member of the Pennsylvania State House (132nd district) from 1991-1999 and the Pennsylvania State Senate (16th district) from 1999-2004. [1]
During his 2004 campaign, Dent said he would use his platform in Congress to prevent other states from shipping waste into Pennsylvania and to secure funds to build a new bridge for the American Parkway across the Lehigh River in Allentown. [2]
Dent, a pro-choice Republican, is also a proponent of alternative energy sources and is one of the four founding members of the House Hydrogen Fuel Cell Caucus.[3]
2006 elections
In 2006, Democrats nominated Charles Dertinger to face Dent in his November 2006 bid for reelection. (See U.S. congressional elections in 2006) [4] Dent retained his seat.
