Chris Carney was a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the Tenth Congressional District of Pennsylvania from 2007 to 2011.

Biography

Born in 1959, Carney studied at Cornell College in Iowa before earning his Masters Degree from the University of Wyoming and his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska. He currently teaches political science at Penn State University in Scranton. Carney is also a lieutenant commander in the United States Naval Reserves and has been called to active duty overseas several times. He is the recipient of the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three joint Service Achievement Medals, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. His awards also include the Naval Rifle Marksman ribbon and the Naval Pistol Expert Medal. [1]

He has also worked at the Pentagon as as an intelligence analyst and senior advisor on intelligence and counterterrorism issues. [2]

He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their 5 children in Dimock Township, Pennsylvania. [3]

Carney defeated incumbent Republican Rep. Don Sherwood 53%-47% to take possession of his seat in the 2006 congressional elections. [4]
