Daniel Davis is a Democratic candidate in the 2008 congressional elections for the 19th Congressional District (map) of Illinois.[1][2] He won the Democratic primary on February 5, 2008 and will challenge incumbent Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.).[3]

Bio
Daniel Davis has spent most of his life living and working in the 19th Congressional District. Raised in Harrisburg, Davis went on to graduate with honors from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and speech communication.[4]
While a full-time student, Davis worked as the Associate Pastor for the First Baptist Church in Harrisburg. Davis served as a fellow in the James H. Dunn Fellowship Program before becoming a legislative liaison at the Illinois Department of Public Health, where he negotiated and interpreted legislation.[4]
Davis most recently served as the special assistant to the Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health. In the position, Davis acted in an advisory and consultative capacity and worked with elected and appointed public officials to bridge city, regional, and state initiatives.[4]

Davis won the Democratic nomination to challenge Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.) in the 2008 congressional elections. [5]
