David Lee Camp, usually known as Dave Camp, has been a Republican member of the U. S. House of Representatives since 1991, representing the 4th District of Michigan.

Iraq War

Camp voted for the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 that started the Iraq War.^[1]

Bio

Camp was born July 9, 1953, in Midland, Michigan, where he graduated from H.H. Dow High School in 1971. He attended the University of Sussex, Brighton, England, 1973-1974 and earned his B.A., magna cum laude, in 1975 from Albion College in Albion, Michigan. He earned a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1978. Camp worked as a member of the Midland County, Michigan board of canvassers and a member of the Midland County Republican executive committee. He was special assistant attorney general, and Michigan state attorney general, 1980-1984. He served on the staff of Representative Representative Bill Schuette of Michigan, 1984-1987. He served one term in the Michigan state house of representatives from 1989-1990.

Congressional career

"A member of the House Republican leadership team, Camp serves as a deputy majority whip to help ensure the Republicans' agenda is passed. Camp managed the successful campaign of Rep. J. Dennis Hastert (IL-16) to become Speaker of the House and is a member of the Steering Committee, which determines the chairmanship and membership of House committees."[1]

According to his website biography, "Camp is dedicated to keeping the trust and representing the values of his constituents in mid-Michigan. A fiscal conservative, he has been named a "taxpayer hero" by Citizens Against Government Waste. His voting record has also earned him a perfect score from Citizens for a Sound Economy and the Spirit of Enterprise award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce."[2]

2006 elections

In 2006, the Democrats nominated Michael Ray Huckleberry to face Camp in his November 2006 bid for reelection. (See U.S. congressional elections in 2006) [3] Camp retained his seat.
