Edolphus "Ed" Towns is a Democratic member of the House of Representatives, representing the 10th District of New York based in Brooklyn. He has served in the House since 1983.

Towns voted against the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 that started the Iraq War.[1]
Bio
Background
Towns was born July 21, 1934 in Chadbourn, North Carolina. he recieved his B.S. from North Carolina A&T State University in 1956 and his Master's in social work from Adelphi University in 1973. Prior to serving in Congress, he was a teacher in the New York City Public School System, and a professor at Fordham University and Evers University. Towns was in the Army from 1956-58, and was Deputy Hospital Adminstrator, Beth Israel Medical Center from 1965-71
Congressional Career
Towns was first elected in 1982, and is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus.
2006 elections
In 2006, the Republicans nominated Jonathan H. Anderson to face Towns in his November 2006 bid for reelection. (See U.S. congressional elections in 2006) [1] Towns retained his seat.
