Speakers

  • Allyson Kapin - As the Founding Partner of Rad Campaign http://www.radcampaign.com, Allyson serves as the Executive Creative Director and leads the firm's client and online strategic services. For over a decade Allyson has helped non-profit organizations and political campaigns create dynamic and award-winning websites and online marketing and recruitment campaigns. As part of the first generation of online advocacy experts, Allyson has a thorough understanding of the rapidly changing world of online activism. She is an expert in the latest trends in Web 2.0 and social media, online video, and other online tools and strategies and advises her clients on how to cost effectively integrate them into their Internet plans and online campaigns. Her web campaigns have been recognized with several prestigious web awards and featured on several top media networks ranging from CNN to NPR and the Daily Show with John Stewart. Allyson has spearheaded online campaigns for many organizations ranging from American Rights at Work to the National Breast Cancer Coalition as well as the Save Darfur Coalition. She is a leading authority on web design strategies, Internet marketing and using online social networking to create participatory web communities. She is also a frequent a speaker at conferences at the national and regional levels. Allyson's observations and analysis of social media, nonprofit tech, and online fundraising can be read at Radical Tech http://www.fastcompany.com/blog/allyson-kapin/radical-tech-0, a weekly blog column for the popular magazine Fast Company and Care2's Frogloop blog http://www.frogloop.com where she serves as Blogger-In-Chief. Outside of Rad Campaign, Allyson spends her time dreaming up new projects. Her latest initiative is Women Who Tech: A Telesummit for Women in Technology in the non-profit and political world http://www.womenwhotech.com. As the founder of Women Who Tech she champions women who are inspiring change and transforming technology. She also serves as an expert for news reporters who are writing about women in technology. In 2008 Allyson joined the Advisory Board for the New Organizing Institute.
  • Katie Harbath - As the Director of Online Services for DCI Group, Katie Harbath oversees all internet operations and online activities. An active participant in online campaigning and communications since 2003, Ms. Harbath is also a speaker at forums on how to best utilize the Internet in politics including Personal Democracy Forum and the Institute for Politics, Democracy and the Internet at George Washington University. Before re-joining DCI Group as a director in the Online Services division in 2008, Ms. Harbath most recently was the Deputy eCampaign Director for Rudy Giuliani's Presidential Campaign. There, Ms. Harbath was responsible for the Mayor's day-to-day Internet strategy including development of his campaign Web site, blog management, online videos and social networking. Prior to the Giuliani campaign Ms. Harbath held her first job at DCI Group in the Online Services division as a Senior Account Manager. She originally joined the firm after working as a Communications Director for a Congressional campaign in Ohio. During the 2004 cycle, Ms. Harbath worked at the Republican National Committee where she was responsible for GOP.com - the national party's Web site. Ms. Harbath is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Political Science. She is originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin.
  • Jared Seltzer - Jared is the co-founder of Rad Campaign http://www.radcampaign.com and serves as the firms Chief Information Architect and Lead Programmer. Jared's background in web development and web centric applications is extensive and includes network architecture and management, web design, web development and building custom social networking applications. Jared has worked on technology and online projects for non-profit organizations for well over a decade and is an expert in helping clients to choose technology solutions that fits their web needs and budget. Jared has led all of Rad Campaign's client web development initiatives including projects for the environmental organization Center for a New American Dream, Humane Society of the United States and the National Environmental Education Foundation. He is skilled in both web interface development and back-end programming and is experienced with a wide range of web development tools, including PHP, Perl, Flash, JavaScript, XHTML and XML to name a few. Jared is a sought after expert in the tech sector. He is an Expert Blogger for Fast Company http://www.fastcompany.com/blog/allyson-kapin/radical-tech-0 and has been featured in the New York Times discussing how green computing helps protect the environment. This spring Jared will be featured in Idealware's major report comparing the most popular open source content management systems Drupal, Joomla, and WordPress.
  • Justin Germany - Justin Germany is the Principal of Outlaw media, a boutique media consulting firm specializing in Web video. Before founding Outlaw Media, Germany served the McCain campaign as their Director of Online Media. As a part of the media team known as Foxhole Productions, Germany, wrote, edited and produced hundreds of Web videos as well as broadcast advertising. New York Magazine named his Web ad, “The One”, as the most effective ad of the entire presidential race. Named a Rising Star by Politics magazine, Germany previously worked on Bush-Cheney '04 as the eCampaign videographer and editor. Hiscinéma vérité inspired work served as a nexus between digital documentary and political messaging that showcased the President on the campaign trail. The New York Times took note of Germany's editing and shooting style describing a movie he filmed and edited for the President's rallies as, “the video stands out… edgy, unpresidential style, with grainy pictures, speeded-up-action and off kilter camera angles shouting out “You got a problem with this?” to anyone under 25.” He holds a Master's in Political Management from the George Washington University and received his Bachelor's degree in Political Communication from Louisiana State University.
