Economy
Connolly said on his campaign website that he will work to reverse the Bush economic policies, balance the budget, and curb the rising costs of healthcare, food and gasoline. [1]
Iraq
Connolly supports ending the war in Iraq, and working with others to fix America's reputation in the world. [1]
Healthcare
Connolly supports efforts to reform the healthcare system. He supports a plan that encourages preventive care and early diagnosis and makes denying coverage to those with pre-existing conditions illegal. [1]
Environment
Promoting energy conservation and reducing greenhouse gas emissions are both big parts of Connolly's environmental platform. [1]
Education
Connolly supports increasing federal investments in education and change No Child Left Behind to benefit students more, and direct funding to schools that really need it. [1]
Bio
Connolly was born March 30, 1950, in Boston. he has a B.A. from Maryknoll College and an M.P.A. from Harvard University. He was elected Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on November 4, 2003. Prior to that, he served nine years as the Providence District Supervisor. He also served as Director of Community Relations for SAIC, a Fortune 500 company that specializes in scientific and technology solutions for government and commercial clients. [1][1]
2008 elections
Connolly won the Democratic nomination in the June 2008 primaries, and went on to face Keith Fimian (R) in the November 2008 U.S. congressional elections. The two candidates were vying to replace retiring Rep. Tom Davis (R).[1] Connolly defeated Fimian in the November 2008 general election.[1]
