The Green Senatorial Campaign Committee (GSCC) is a political action committee affilated with the Green Party (U.S.).

Background

The PAC was charged with similar duties of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and National Republican Senatorial Committee. Specifically, it was to "financially and politically support Green-endorsed candidates for the United State Senate." [1]

Controversy

Non-Official Status

As a PAC, the GSCC has operated with much stricter contribution guidelines, such as being limited to donating only $5,000 per candidate. On February 8, 2007, the Federal Election Commission was scheduled to review the Green Party's application to have the GSCC recognized as an "FEC-sanctioned senatorial campaign committee." This would allow the committee to increase the amount of money it donates to an individual candidate to $26,700 in 2007 (indexed to inflation).

Among the criteria for determining whether or not the application would be successful is whether or not the organization had engaged in "party-building activities, such as get-out-the-vote drives." [2]

Official Status Granted

On February 8, 2007, the Green Senatorial Campaign Committee (GSCC) was granted national Senate campaign committee status by the Federal Election Commission. The GSCC now shares the same status as the Democrat and Republican House and Senate national campaign committees. The entire Federal Election Commission Advisory Opinion 2006-36 can be found here
