House Committee on Ways and Means

The House Committee of Ways and Means is the chief tax-writing committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. Members of the Ways and Means Committee cannot serve on any other House Committees, though they can apply for a waiver from their party's congressional leadership. The Committee has jurisdiction over all taxation, tariffs and other revenue-raising measures, as well as a number of other programs including:

110th Congress (2007-2008)
Small business tax cuts
Rangel and McCrery announced on February 9, 2007, that they had reached a bipartisan agreement to propose a coupling of small business tax cuts with the increase in the federal minimum wage. The proposal was revenue-neutral, attempting to appeal to both parties and ensure the practical path of the minimum wage increase. [1]
Raising Private Equity Fund Manager's tax rate from 15% to 35%( H.R. 2834)
Sandy Levin (D-MI) would treat this as ordinary income, rather than giving it a special tax break. [2]
