Jaime Herrera was asked to "Describe briefly [her] vision for the nation’s energy future and the region’s" by Columbian staff writer Kathie Durbin. In her answer, Herrera stated that "We need domestic energy sources including wind and solar, clean coal technology, nuclear and we need to protect the clean, renewable hydro resources we already have." She stated her opposition to cap and trade legislation, saying that "Incentives, not punishment, should be the path to more renewable energy".

Jamie Herrera is a Republican member of the Washington State House of Representatives, where she has represented District 18 since 2007. Herrera currently serves as the Assistant Minority Floor Leader. Prior to this, from 2005-07, Herrera worked in Washington, D.C. as Senior Legislative Aide for Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Spokane), serving as the Congresswoman’s lead advisor on health care policy, education, veterans’ and women’s issues.
