Bio

Walsh was born June 19, 1947 in Syracuse, New York and graduated from St. Bonaventure University.
Political Career
2006 elections
In 2006, the Democrats nominated Dan Maffei to face Walsh in his November 2006 bid for reelection. (See U.S. congressional elections in 2006) [1] Walsh retained his seat.
Retirement
In late January 2008, Walsh was preparing to announce his retirement, according to news sources. Walsh had faced a tough reelection bid in 2006, retaining his seat by a one-percent margin against challenger Dan Maffei. Maffei was again seeking the seat in 2008.[2]
Position and Views
Walsh is a member of the Republican Main Street Partnership, a group which typically takes conservative positions on fiscal matter and moderate ones on social issues. He does not, however, support embryonic stem cell research and voted against H.R. 810 which would have provided federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. [2]
