Bio
Fudge was born October 29, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio. She has a B.S. from Ohio State University and a J. D. from Cleveland Marshall College of Law (Cleveland State University). A practicing attorney, she also served as an aide to Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones in the early 1990s. She was elected mayor of Warrensville Heights in 2000, thus becoming the city's first black executive. She served as mayor until 2008.[1][1]
2008 elections
After the death of Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Ohio) August 20, 2008, Fudge was selected to take Jones' spot on the November ballot.[1] [1] Tubbs defeated Republican nominee Thomas Pekarek; she received 85 percent of the vote, while Pekarek received 15 percent.[1] On November 18, Fudge ran unopposed in the special election to serve out the remainder of Jones' term, and she was elected with less than 9,000 votes cast. Fudge was sworn into the 110th Congress on November 19.[1]
