Margaret Blackshere is a director of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and a trustee of the Solidarity Center. She is also a director of the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago.[1] She is also a superdelegate in the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination

Bio

"Throughout her career Blackshere advanced women’s participation in the Democratic Party and organized labor. She has served as a delegate of the Democratic National Convention during 1980-1992 and promoted the candidacy of women at all levels within the Democratic Party. Blackshere promoted teachers’ rights as the president of the American Federation of Teachers and the Secretary-Treasurer of the Illinois State AFL-CIO." [2]

"Margaret Blackshere is President of the Illinois AFL-CIO. She is a former classroom teacher who has served at all levels of the labor movement from President of her local union in Madison to Statewide Vice President of the Illinois Federation of Teachers. She serves on a variety of boards and councils including the Alliance for Retired Americans Labor-Management Cooperation Council, United Way of Illinois, Voices for Illinois Children, Workers Compensation Advisory Board. Ms. Blackshere has a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education and a Master’s in urban education from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville." [3]
