Texas redistricting
Conaway is one of several new Texas Republicans added to the House during the 2004 elections as a result of redistricting.
DeLay was indicted by a grand jury in the fall of 2005 for "alleged crimes during the 2002 Statehouse races that gave Republicans the majority, allowing them to redraw the map. With the new map, Republicans picked up five seats last year."[1]
The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to hand down a final decision on the controversial redistricting before the July 4, 2006 recess. Conaway, whose district could be redrawn as a result of the decision, doesn't plan to change course in an election year. He told The Hill, on March 24, 2006, "At this point, with so little information, you've got to run with what you've got," Conaway said. "I'm confident that the map will stand."[2]

Mike Conaway has voted in favor of oil companies on 91% of important oil-related bills. These include Iraq War Funding, Climate Change Studies, Clean Energy, and Ending Oil Subsidies. See money in politics below.[citation needed]
ARMPAC contributions
According to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Michael Conaway "has taken $10,000 from Tom DeLay's ARMPAC." and "Conaway voted with Tom DeLay 98% of the time between Jan. 1 2004 and March 31 2005."[3]
Bio
Conaway was born June 11, 1948 in Borger, Texas. He graduated from Texas A & M University-Commerce in 1970 with a BBA degree in Accounting and served in the U.S Army at Ford Hood.
After the Army, Conaway "resumed his career with Price Waterhouse & Co. He returned to the Permian Basin with Price Waterhouse and settled in Midland where he later worked with George W. Bush as the Chief Financial Officer for Bush Exploration. There, Mike developed a lasting friendship with President Bush as together they learned what it takes to run a business."[4]
"In 1995, then-Governor Bush appointed Mike to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, a state regulatory agency that regulates the practice of accountancy in Texas. Mike volunteered his time to serve the citizens of Texas on the board for seven years, including more than five years as Chairman."[5]
