Bio
Born in Port Orchard, Washington on December 16, 1940, Dicks attended the University of Washington, graduating with a degree in Law in 1963. Immediately upon graduation, he became legislative and administrative assistant to long-serving U.S. Senator Warren G. Magnuson of Washington state. He worked for Magnuson until his election to Congress in 1976.[1]
Congressional career
Dicks was appointed in his first term to the House Appropriations Committee and is currently a senior member of that committee.
According to his House biography, "Rep. Dicks has been an influential moderate Member of Congress on defense and national security issues" and environmental issues have always been "a high priority," particularly the Northern Spotted Owl, roadless area preseravation, and salmon protection. He is also known as "an aggressive champion of economic development funds for local communities." [2]
2006 elections
In 2006, Republicans nominated Doug Cloud to face Dicks in his November 2006 bid for reelection. (See U.S. congressional elections in 2006) [3] Dicks retained his seat.
