Peter James is the Republican candidate for the 4th Congressional District (map) of Maryland in the 2008 congressional elections. On February 12, 2008, he won the Republican nomination. He will challenge Donna Edwards, who defeated incumbent Rep. Albert Wynn (D-Md.) in the Democratic primaries.[1] James lost a special election to fill the remainder of Wynn's term on June 17, 2008.[1]

Special election
On May 31, 2008, Wynn resigned his seat in the 110th Congress. Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) called for a special election to fill the remainder of Wynn's term. James was selected by GOP committees in the 4th District to be the Republican candidate in the June 17 special election.[1] He lost to Donna Edwards by a 60-point margin.[1]
