Bob Latta, a Republican, has represented the 5th Congressional District of Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2007. He won the seat in a special election to replace deceased Rep. Paul Gillmor (R-Ohio). The special election took place on December 11, 2007. Latta went on to win re-election in 2008 by defeating Democratic nominee George F. Mays in the November 2008 general election.

Bio

Latta was elected to the Ohio State Senate in November 1996 representing the 2nd Senate District. In November 2000 he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives to represent the 6th House District.[1]

Latta graduated from Bowling Green Senior High School in 1974, received a B.A. degree from Bowling Green State University in 1978, and received a law degreee from the University of Toledo College of law in 1981. He lives in Bowling Green with his wife Marcia and their two daughters Elizabeth and Maria.[1]

Bob Latta's father, Delbert L. Latta, held the 5th Congressional District for 30 years. Bob Latta lost an earlier bid to succeed his father in the seat in 1988 to Gillmor by a thin margin of 27 votes.[1]

2008 election

Latta won re-election in 2008 by defeating Democratic nominee George F. Mays in the November 2008 general election.[1]

2007 election

Latta was seeking the Republican nomination to replace Rep. Paul Gillmor (R-Ohio) in a special election. He won the election by a margin of 57% - 43% against Robin Weirauch.[1][1][1][1]
