Biography

Walz was born in West Point, Nebraska in 1964. When he was 17 he joined the Army National Guard and served for the next 24 years including in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Walz had previously started a small business, Educational Travel Adventures, Inc., that provides educational trips to China for high school students. Walz has also been an accomplished football coach and high school teacher, winning the 2002 Minnesota Ethics in Education award winner, 2003 Mankato Teacher of the Year, and the 2003 Minnesota Teacher of Excellence.[1]

2006 election

Walz defeated Republican Rep. Gil Gutknecht 53% to 47% to take possession of the seat in the 2006 congressional elections. [2]
