Bio
Price was born October 8, 1954 in Lansing, Michigan and attended the University of Michigan. He completed his residency at Emory University in Atlanta. He ran an orthopedic clinic in Atlanta for 20 years before returning to Emory as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery.
He was a member of the Georgia State Senate from 1997 to 2005, serving as minority whip from 1999 to 2003 and majority leader from 2003 to 2005. He was the first Republican majority leader in the state senate since Reconstruction.
When 6th District incumbent Johnny Isakson declined to run for reelection in order to run for the US Senate, Price entered the Republican primary for the seat and faced Cobb Countian and favorite Robert Lamutt. Price squeaked by a highly contested and very expensive primary, with significant funding from the Medical and Dental PACs. Since no Democrat filed to run for the seat, the Republican primary also decided the district's next congressman.
2006 elections
In 2006, the Democrats nominated Steve Sinton to face Price in his November 2006 bid for reelection. (See U.S. congressional elections in 2006) [1] Price retained his seat.
